Doctors always display an image of cleanliness and many may wonder why. This is obvious it is because they are always wearing clean white doctor coats. This might not be the exact reason but the color white always represent cleanliness whether you wear it as a coat, shirt, shoes, or jacket. Aside from the color though Doctors always strive to make an effort to always look clean since no patient would actually like approaching a doctor who is not neat and tidy.

Doctors and other medical practitioners actually use a white coat for one main reason which is to prevent their street clothes from getting soiled. Aside from this, wearing a white coat would also be a good way of detecting the slightest germs and dirt on you. It is very important for doctors to act immediately upon the slightest sight of germs or infection on themselves since their work has a very high hygiene quotient.

In this modern world though there is an ongoing debate if medical practitioners should be allowed to wear coats with different colors other than white. The significance of the white coat for doctors seemed to be highly regarded especially to those who have been in the medical field for quite some time already. With this ongoing debate, certain manufacturing companies have begun making coats with some variation on there designs. It won't be too surprising anymore to see doctors in hospitals sporting coats with different cuts, different pocket designs, and embroideries.

Today some medical institutes are actually allowing doctors to wear coats of different colors. Therefore it now depends on a particular medical facility or research institute if they will allow doctors working within their organization to wear coats with different colors other than white. The possibility of having doctors coming from different departments to wear coats of different colors as a code to distinguish themselves between several different specialties, has also been largely entertained by newer medical institutes.

If you are a medical practitioner and you want to use lab coats of different colors, designs, or length, it is perfectly fine as long as it does not go against any working ethics that is being followed in the place where you are working. Certain dress codes are in place with any facility available whether medical or not and everyone is expected to comply with them. If it is allowed and you want to experiment on wearing coats of different designs and colors, you can actually choose the kinds of coats you want with a few selections available in the market. Search for manufacturers who can design the coat in terms of your own preference or customize your existing coats perhaps with an additional icon such as the logo of your institute.

These are some of the reasons why white doctor coats are still being worn by medical practitioners and why some wear different colors. Choose the color that you want as long as it fits your taste and it is allowed in your working place.
