Alzheimer is an incurable, degenerative, and terminal disease which is a common form of dementia. It was first described by German psychiatrist with the name of Alois Alzheimer in the year 1901 as a disease where each of the sufferer experiences it in a unique way and there are many common signs of it. The earliest symptoms of Alzheimer's were mistakenly thought as age-related concerns, or stress related. If a person is suspected to have this kind of disease and reported to a doctor, the physician would normally conduct behavioral assessments and cognitive tests followed by a brain scan to confirm the diagnosis.
This kind of disease can continue to progress undiagnosed in an individual for years. The period of time for its development is indeterminate however, once an individual has been diagnosed to having it the mean life expectancy is just around seven years following the year that the diagnosis was done. The disease is divided into four stages of progress which would start with dementia, early dementia, moderate dementia, and the last stage would be advanced dementia where usually minor and major bodily functions are lost which would lead to death. Some of Alzheimer symptoms are found bellow to give you more idea on how the disease starts or to determine its early signs.
One of the most common signs of Alzheimer is memory lost. It is important to note that memory lost that disrupts daily life is not a part of aging. Therefore such kind of memory lost should not be taken lightly since it could already be a tell-tale sign of a possible Alzheimer's disease. Such kind of memory lost may include forgetting recently learned information; forgetting important dates or events; asking for the same information over and over again; and relying heavily on memory aides such as reminder notes or devices or relying on family members on things that they suppose to handle on their own.
Another symptom associated with this disease is the changes in their ability to develop a plan and following it or solving problems. This may include having trouble in following a recipe which they have been cooking for years and years as well as having problems in tracking the monthly bills. This may be caused by having difficulty in concentrating and difficulty in dealing with numbers.
People that are diagnosed with Alzheimer's often find it hard to complete simple tasks at home or at work. They may find it hard to remember certain rules of their favorite game, difficulty in managing budget at work or at home, and sometimes they may even have a hard time driving towards a certain location that they frequently visited.
It is very important that you are aware of these symptoms of Alzheimer's since early detection of this disease is important. If you have a friend or a member of your family whom you suspect to have the disease bring them immediately to a doctor for consultation and advice.
