Understanding the rationale behind body building is actually the first requirement before a potential body builder engages in any body building exercise program. Body building is an art by itself and its success is and must always be judged as a wholesome endeavor. Building the body should be uniform and proportional such that the physique attains a balanced development. Circumstances surrounding the body builder function as guiding principles that ultimately provide a criterion upon which exercising priority is placed. For a beginner, any exercise must be geared towards provision of a wholesome solid foundation on which subsequent training sessions are going to be based. The beginner should therefore think in terms of the whole body development rather than perfection of the specific body parts.

The specialized exercise routines targeting specific body parts are a norm with seasoned professional body builder. A professional's attention is purely focused on the weaknesses which he or she has become aware of during the duration of training. He or she will therefore do anything to improve on the body parts where such weaknesses have been witnessed all in a bid to uniformly develop a masculine physique.

Group exercises are ideal for the beginner as well as the experienced professional who is preparing to participate in a competition. Again there arises a subtle difference in terms of equipment as well as the level of emphasis ideally placing preference on a balanced body development. The trick is to prompt bulk up in weak areas and relaxing the already developed body parts. Different body parts are engaged in strength training and for different reasons. For the circuit training body builder, input rests on the body and breaks in between sets are deferred until the end of the day's routine. Muscles imbalances are as a result of overtraining for the beginner but for the experienced professional, imbalances are a question of misplaced body part focus rather than overtraining.

The muscle groups focused on by the body building program must be trained for the longest period of time. This creates compound movement when each part of the body is trained as if it is being isolated from the rest of the body. Training isolated body parts in succession is the single most viable way of developing a wholesomely proportional physique as compared to undertaking comprehensive exercises. Isolated but systematically comprehensive training strategies ought to be the focus of the efficient and effective bodybuilder. With the right equipment or suitable improvisations, a body builder can be perfect his or her physique.

A bodybuilding program must also not be rigid. It must create room for both creativity and innovation. When the weights are not available and it is a day for weight training, you must not adjourn the exercises. You may need to replace it with the incline press for example, if the missing equipment was the flat bench. The only thing to remember is to balance training to ensure that all muscle groups and body parts are equally and effectively stimulated during the training week. Bias is sometimes allowed in terms of workload for specific body parts and or muscle groups whose development needs to be overly stimulated until they catch up with the rest of the body.

Building a perfectly balanced and proportional physique is that simple and then again, that complex. It requires strategy and consistency.
