The beginner body builders who approach body building with a pessimistic attitude, never last in the trade. They always find faults and limitations everywhere they look. From the industry's malpractices to the local gym's facilities, from the training routines to the gym instructor, these pessimists always attach faults and criticism to anything that they find. Bodybuilding is an art, a gabble and a venture that requires an open mind. It requires a very optimistic attitude that defies limitations and faults to see the good.

The beginner who sets out convinced that he or she can master the required effort and discipline to achieve greater muscle mass than of anyone he or she has seen, in most times succeeds. There might not be another sports field in which dreams work wonders and where attitude determines success as in body building. The single greatest mark of a beginner headed to the glory of bodybuilding is a willingness and readiness to learn. Being new to the field, the body builder must be ready to gain knowledge and accumulate experience. Any insight to the body building industry and practice must be welcomed and employed.

Such a beginner is termed as a sponge- like body builder. He or she appreciates and follows up any lead or insight that might assist him or her in succeeding. The beginner level of bodybuilding is essentially a stage of learning. One has to learn the techniques necessary to achieve individual goals, the method of workout, the types and variations of exercises and how to perform them efficiently, the type of diets and hoe to match the diet program with body building objectives, the technique of determining workout frequency and intensity, the means of maximizing muscle gains, and a million other things that makes bodybuilding a success. This is the knowledge that makes a firm foundation on which later body building achievements will be rooted.

Without learning these ropes, without having the willingness to learn, without the commitment to search for and employ knowledge and without the optimism of success, a beginner's bodybuilding program soon falters. The foundation is based on misinformation, imagination and presuppositions and therefore doomed for failure. Lacking the ability to absorb knowledge at the beginner level, disarms the body builder the staying power.

The sponger-like beginner amasses so much information that he or she can selectively apply it whenever hard times strike or when progress is deemed necessary. He or she asks questions from the experts, listens to successful body builders he or she has befriended, reads anything published on and offline about body building and then sits down to choose what's valuable and what's not.

With all these information, the beginner learns early to determine what is valid in bodybuilding and what is not, he or she learns from the mistakes of others making it possible to succeed where others failed. With time and patience, the sponge-like body building beginner becomes an expert headed for greater exploits. Yet this character and habit of searching for and employing as much information as possible never really dies, for a successful body builder must always be informed whatever level he or she is.
