Curing acid reflux early can only happen once you understand what the different symptoms of heartburn are. What exactly is acid-reflux, or stomach reflux? Stomach-reflux, or heart burn, is not really an illness by itself -- rather, it is a symptom of more serious diseases, e.g. GERD, or 'Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease'.

The causes of heart burn may vary from one person to another, but the acid reflux symptoms are usually the same across a variety of reflux sufferers. The following are the most common signs of reflux in people:

Symptom #1: Difficulty or pain when swallowing

More often than not, people who suffer from heartburn experience a burning sensation in the throat, thus, making it hard to swallow. Some people even find it painful to swallow. The said symptom actually results from the overflow of excess acids from the stomach into the throat.

Symptom #2: Chest pains

Pain in the chest is also one of the symptoms of heartburn. The pain usually begins just behind a person's breastbone, then, may end in the throat. The said pain is usually felt just a few minutes after eating and may either last for several minutes, or sometimes, a few hours.

Symptom #3: Acidic taste in the mouth

Among the signs of reflux is also a sour taste, or even a bitter taste in the mouth. The acidic taste is produced from the stomach contents that are pushed back up the esophagus, then, falls back down again into the stomach which makes the person taste bitterness or sourness in the mouth.

Symptom #4: Choking sensations

One of the most uncomfortable and scary symptoms of heartburn is the choking sensation. Remember that some of the food and acid travel up into the esophagus from the stomach, which makes an individual feel that there is something blocking his or her throat, thus, choking sensations are felt. It is normal for individuals with heartburn to panic a bit when the said acid-reflux sign is experienced.

Symptom #5: Severe coughing

Serious coughing is also one of the acid reflux symptoms that actually happen as the excess acids that travel up into the throat causes aspiration, which, of course, can result to coughing.

Because of the many signs of reflux, it is a must that you have your heart burn treated in order to prevent severe symptoms of heartburn that can really disrupt your life and cause serious discomfort and irritating pain.
