Uniforms - They are generally there for a reason. If you have to wear a uniform for you line of work then there is usually a good reason for that. Maybe it could be to protect you from some of the more dangerous elements of your role, or maybe it could be to do with the fact that your company wants you to stand out from the crowd, so you can be easily identified by the consumer. Uniforms are there to make our lives simpler and shouldn't been seen as a negative aspect of a role.

When it comes to the medical profession, uniforms play a key role in the day to day operations; they help to identify medical professionals from ordinary members of the public and it also helps to protect them from a number of germs and substances that might be floating around the hospital. This is clearly apparent when we take a look at nurses uniforms.

Nurses are some of the hardest working individuals around the hospital, they are the front line workers who deal with patients and family members, doctors and surgeons and depending on the ward they are on can be exposed to a number of unpleasant and messy situations.

Because of this, nurses uniforms have to be extremely resilient to withstand the demands that are placed upon them with the heavy workload of the daily nurses shift. One minute the nurse could be speaking to family members about the progress of a loved one, the next they could be rushed into an emergency situation with a patient. Life never stands still in a hospital and it is important that an item of clothing is manufactured that can stand up to the heavy demands placed upon it.

The fabric needs to be hard wearing and resilient but it also needs to be easy to wash and quick to dry. It is also important that nurses uniforms show up any dirt or grime that may have managed to attach itself to the item of clothing. Several of the patients within the hospital will be susceptible to infection. It is no good for the hospital to pay so much attention to catching bugs with MRSA sprays and lotions if the nurses uniforms act as a germ infested cloth.

Nurses uniforms serve the purpose that they have been designed for, just like every other uniform it has been designed and constructed with a purpose in mind, and it fills that purpose to the letter.
