Bad breath or halitosis is one common problem faced by millions of people worldwide, and at one time or another, you may have experienced your breath having that undesirable odor. What is not good about having halitosis is that, you may never know that you already have a foul-smelling breath.

Curing bad breath starts from understanding the causes of such condition and trying to avoid the causes as much as possible. If you want to be sure about how your breath smells, ask a very good friend of yours or your partner. Sometimes, people around us may not have the courage to tell you that you have halitosis, so it is also a good practice to ask your friend's opinion. Keep in mind that you may not be able to determine if you have this breath problem even if you exhale on your palms and sniff it because that bad smell often comes out when you talk.

If you are suffering from bad breath and you have noticed that even your friends are getting farther from you, take time to find ways to end the this embarrassing breath problem. In fact, you can find a lot of simple ways in curing bad breath, and these can even be found at home.

Among the simple things that you can do to help you end bad breath are the following.

- Brush your tongue. Aside from thoroughly brushing and flossing you teeth for at least two minutes, it is important to also brush your tongue to get rid of that whitish discoloration on the surface that can be home to a lot of bacteria that may contribute to the foul smell.

- Correct your bad habits. It is not too late to correct bad habits that may also contribute to a bad smelling breath. Smoking, for example, as well as alcohol can contribute to a foul breath and may also lead to the yellowing of the teeth, which are, for sure, among the things that you want to avoid.

- Watch what you put into your mouth. One of the causes of halitosis is simply the types of food you are eating, and if you want to get rid of bad breath, you have to check also the foods that you are eating. Spicy foods often leave you with a bad smelling breath, but of course, it does not mean you have to stop eating spices. Just make sure that you do your part in cleaning your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Chew on sugarless gum after meals and make sure you floss your teeth to get rid of other food particles stuck in between your teeth.

Although there are many simple ways in curing bad breath, it is always important to seek your dentist professional help in cleaning your teeth and making sure you are free from cavities and other odor-causing factors. It is also equally important to check with your doctor if you have a persistent bad breath that won't go away to make sure that you don't have any underlying conditions that are causing the bad smell.
