Making exercise a part of daily life is a very challenging task. Many people take on this task every day despite the difficulty.

There are several methods that those who have succeeded at making exercise a necessary part of their life have shared. Most of them agreed that the first thing you need to do is ask yourself why you are exercising and why you want it to become an ingrained part of your life.

You might be exercising to prepare for a future event, lose weight, sleep better, increase your energy, gain strength, or add muscle tone and flexibility. It may even be as simple as to gain a better sense of well being.

If your reason has anything to do with someone else, such as the people at school are teasing you about your weight, you will need to find a new reason to exercise. The reason why you are exercising should be one you are completely committed to.

After you know why you want to exercise you will be able to set goals and plans on how to achieve those goals. Be sure to set both short and long term goals.

If you only set a long term goal, you will become discouraged because the completion of the goal is too far away. The short term goals can help keep you on track to achieve the long term goal and the feeling of accomplishment will help you continue exercising.

The short term goal should be set for no more than three to six weeks away. The long term goal can take the length of a year.

Do not set goals that you believe are unreachable or high enough that they are discouraging rather than motivating. These goals should be directly related to your reason for exercising and defined explicitly.

As you start exercising, be sure to keep an exercise journal. After your work out write down how the exercise made you feel, how you felt before hand, your resulting energy levels, quality of sleep, weight, and so forth.

Note whether specific types of exercising are more effective than other types. Conclude with how you worked on progressing towards your goals.

You may even want to periodically take pictures of yourself after your workout to have a visual record of your improvement. Add these photos to your journal.

As you plan your workouts make sure they are working you hard enough to release endorphins. However, do not push yourself too far.

Depending on your health, you may want to consult with a doctor to find out what the best workout routine would be for you. You are much more likely to continue exercising if you feel better after you exercise because of the endorphins.

Another motivating technique is to place motivational posters in places where you will see them every day. These posters can be found in magazines as advertisements for athletic gear, inspirational slogans, or many other places.

Consider making a collage that you can look at every day. These can really help you keep focused on your goals and they will remind you that what you want to do can be done.

As you exercise, make sure that you are doing it correctly and with the right technique. If you become injured because you are exercising incorrectly it will dampen your spirits and make it much harder to continue exercising.

If you do not know if you are doing a particular exercise correctly try looking it up online, speaking with a trainer, or talking to a doctor. Avoid injury at all cost.

If your goal is to lose weight you may want to join a motivational online community like WeightWatchers.com or Ediets.com. These sites can also provide you electronic services to keep track of your personal daily progress.

Likewise, you may want daily support and motivation to exercise. Find a friend who has similar goals and plan times to work out together.

Moral support can be the difference between a loss of motivation and success in meeting your goals. You will be able to hold each other accountable for missing an exercise session or encourage each other when the work becomes tough.

Finding a good reason to exercise and stay motivated may be difficult, but it is well worth the effort. You will be well rewarded as you reach for your goals.
