Working out at a gym can be very intimidating. If you are just starting to try to get back into shape you may not feel comfortable working out in front of rooms full of strangers.

This is very understandable and a very common problem among people that are just beginning to get back into a healthy lifestyle. If you feel like you are one of these people there are a lot of other things you can do besides visiting the gym to get into shape.

First, you can start by walking. Walking is something that is not only simple but will help you a lot as you are trying to lose weight.

When you first start to walk you may feel discouraged because you cannot walk as far as you thought you would be able to. Try to understand that your body will need some time to get to where it needs to be.

You have to make goals for yourself concerning the distance you are planning on walking. The goals should start out as small very attainable goals and eventually you should be pushing yourself to your limit.

Try to conceptualize a scale from one to ten. This scale will measure the amount of strain you are putting on your body and how hard you are working.

On the low end of the scale is a 1 and this means that the activity you are participating in and the work that you are putting into your physical activity is minimum. You do not want to be at this end of the scale very often.

A ten is your limit. This is the point when you know that you cannot push any harder and you are giving every last bit of physical effort to the activity you are trying to complete or participate in.

When you first start to walk you may find that it is extremely uncomfortable to push yourself even to the fifth level. This may be extremely uncomfortable for you because you are not used to exerting much physical effort.

It is important that you understand this is changeable and the power to change this problem is in your hands. You will have to push yourself and there will be times when you will probably feel uncomfortable, but it is important that you feel the lack of comfort.

You should eventually get used to feeling the uncomfortable feelings that come with putting strain on your body. These are the feelings that will eventually result in you losing weight.

After you reach your first goal you can start walking towards your next goal. All in all, walking is a great way for you to start losing weight and getting your body back into shape.

Walking is not the only alternative to going to the gym though. Even though walking can help you start to get back into shape you have to realize that it will not get you there by itself.

You can also start to do other cardio workouts from the comfort of your own home. Some people do not even want to be walking around their neighborhood or their town because they know they will not try as hard as they should.

If you find yourself in this position an exercise bike may be beneficial for your cardio workouts. When you buy an exercise bike you can put it almost anywhere in your home.

One of the great benefits of getting your cardio workout in on an exercise bike is that it allows you to watch television while you are riding. There are some bikes that are even made to cycle without making noise.

If you knee or ankle problems riding the bike can also be very beneficial for you. The strain that is put on your knees and ankles when you run is much more than the strain that is put on these joints while you are pedaling.

There are also a lot of bikes that will allow you to be in full control of the intensity of the workout that you are going to get out of riding. By changing the slope, the tension and even the way you ride you will be affecting your workout.

Working out from your home can be just as beneficial as working out in a gym. By getting the correct equipment for your workout and learning how to push yourself past your comfort level, you will see the results and the weight loss in no time.
