It is difficult for any company to find a billing system that fits their specific invoicing and payment needs to the T. It is even more difficult for medical offices to do so. When invoicing and coding are insufficient, the business is likely losing money. Physicians' offices and hospitals need special billing platforms to ensure they are as efficient and economically sound as possible.

Proper Billing
When patient billing is done incorrectly, doctor's offices and hospitals will not be properly compensated for their services. This is especially true where medical claims billing is involved. Office staff may miss itemizing services and procedures which may be charged for on a patient's account. Materials and instruments can be billed for in some situations, but not in others. When staff are efficient and well-versed in all available charges and proper procedures, they can use the best strategies available to find every billable service, as well as each expense that can be recovered. This will result in a better profit margin.

Third-Parties
Gone are the days when a patient walked into a doctor's office, was seen and paid the bill before they left the building. Now, many people have insurance. If a healthcare professional wants to be paid for all goods, services, procedures and instruments used for each visit, the company must engage in third-party billing. This means that the insurance company will receive a bill, not just the patient. Some insurance companies are very particular about how the invoice looks, what it contains and when it might be paid. Without the capability of sending an invoice to a third party included in the office's billing platform, it would be extremely difficult for the practice or hospital to be paid for their services.

Medicare
Medicare is the U.S. Government's answer to the provision of health insurance to Americans over the age of 65. It also covers some healthcare services and procedures for those that meet certain physical, mental or financial eligibility requirements. The rules and regulations for Medicare are many and complicated. Special billing platforms must be used by physicians' offices to keep up with the nuances of Medicare. Using a standard accounting program would likely cause patients to billed improperly.

Healthcare Management Companies
Having a platform that allows medical offices to send out the proper invoice is one service provided by healthcare practice management companies. While these businesses do more than just provide platforms and the knowledge for using them, this is a vital feature that helps solve the problem of insufficient billing and unreimbursed expenses for some physicians' offices and hospitals. It helps create additional efficiency.
