Lucid dreaming is one of the most widely debated phenomenons today. Basically, a lucid dream is a dream wherein the sleeping is very aware that he or she is dreaming. When one is lucid dreaming, one can actually participate in imaginary experiences and also manipulate it. Lucid dreams may seem very real ad very vivid depending on how aware the person is while the dream is going. Fredrik Van Eeden was the person that coined this term. According to studies, a lucid dream can start in two ways. The first one would be the dream initiated lucid dream that starts of as a regular dream and then after some time the dreamer will conclude that she or he is dream. The second way is called the wake initiated lucid dream which normally occurs when the sleeper or the dreamer goes from a regular waking state directly to a dream state with any lapses in consciousness. Scientists like Allan Hobson have help people to understand lucid dreaming and help push it to a less speculative area of study.

There have been a lot of publications and studies about lucid dreaming. One of the first books that were books that have been published about lucid dreams was by Celia Green. She analyzed the characteristic of this type of dream and also she reviewed different published literature about this subject and also she incorporated a lot of new date for her very own subjects. She concluded and argues that lucid dreams are very distinct from regular dreams and she predicted that it is actually associated with rapid eye movement. Lucid dreams are phenomenon that no one can really quite explain because there are a number of theories and model that have been made for lucid dreaming and some feel that this is just something that is made up. There have also been some techniques that have been developed in order to help one get a lucid dream however, they do not seem that legitimate because it will entail a lot of things that are not available to monitor it.

Lucid dreaming may be confused with a lot of things and one of them would be out of body experiences which are also still unexplained. An out of body experience happens when one feels the sensation of actually floating outside of the body and sometimes it is when one is able to place himself near or outside one's body. This is actually still an unexplained phenomenon and no one really knows why these things happen. The difficulty that scientists and research face is that they need to rely on the honesty of the person because it is very difficult to monitor this kind of thing.
