If you are looking for a great, low-impact workout, look no further. You have found the ultimate guide to the fitness lover's elliptical machine workout.

These expertly designed machines provide a total body workout. The shifting leg stands provide comfortable exercise for each of your leg's complex muscles groups.

They use the expert design of natural body support, based on the theory that the joints of the body should be completely supported.

While you can burn just as many calories in an elliptical workout as treadmill workout, you will find that this is a more soothing, gentle approach to your body's overall health.

Make sure you are wearing comfortable, stretchy clothing, so your body can have a full range of motion. Wearing cross-training shoes will provide your feet with the support they need.

Be sure to start out by pacing yourself, and slowly build to a more intense workout. Using the "interval" function on your machine is a good option for an intense cardiovascular workout.

As you increase your heart rate, be sure to alternately lower it. By lowering it in a steady manner, you will burn more overall fat.

The length of your workout is completely up to you. You may find that your body does best with an hour long session, while others may find that all their body can stand is a thirty minute workout.

Even working out for thirty minutes a day will help to boost your overall health and performance. You may find that you work quicker, and sleep easier.

Once you have set a steady pace, you may want to alter the conditions under which you are operating. Try increasing your resistance level slowly, adding one level every minute or two.

If you are comfortable with this, you may want to increase your ramp level. See the guide listed on your particular machine.

For example, a ramp level one may target your calves only. You may be surprised to see that to give your buttocks the ultimate workout, you will need to increase your ramp to a level thirteen.

Just make sure that the level you are working at is causing your body no discomfort. Working your body hard doesn't have to be torture.

Once you have adjusted your resistance and ramp levels, you may wish to switch the direction of your legs. Feel free to experiment with shifting your legs in a backward walking motion, rather than a forward push.

This will change the areas of your body that the machine is targeting. It is also a nice way to break up the monotony, and give your muscles a little rest.

If you want a strict program to follow, try five minutes of warm-up, followed by 20 minutes of intense forward and backward push on a resistance level of eight to ten. As your strength builds, increase your resistance and ramp level.

Following your interval training, be sure to give yourself a five minute cool down period before you step off the machine. Allowing your muscles this time to stretch and adjust is a good idea.

If you don't stretch or cool down properly, your muscles may build up a certain chemical which will cause residual aching. While not permanently harmful, it may deter you from working out tomorrow.

To increase the efficiency of your elliptical workout, you may wish to alternate your exercise routine with other forms of strength training. The more the muscles form a habitual routine, the less they will begin to respond.

If you want real results in a short amount of time, trying mixing up your working with jumping rope, weight lifting, kickboxing, swimming, yoga, or anything that keeps your body moving in a different way.

Try out each exercise program on your machine. They range from fat burning, cardio, interval, time scheduled, to being able to create just about program whatever you want.

As you try out each program, you may find that certain ones work for you, while others don't. Listen to your body-ultimately it knows what is best for you.

Whether you are working out to get in shape, train for an event, increase your overall health, or impress the girl in the cubicle next to you, an intense elliptical machine session can help you reach your goals!
