Face or body acne can make pregnant women feel uncomfortable and is why many seek to find a pregnancy acne treatment. Before we find the solution, it's important to examine the reason breakouts occur and how we can prevent or eliminate them.

When women become pregnant, there is a change in their hormone levels. A rise in androgenic hormones will increase production of oils in pores and cause oily skin. Each pregnant woman may experience a different case of acne. Some will have pimples before becoming pregnant and will have even more during pregnancy. There are women who never had pimples and then break out in their first trimester.

To clear your face and prevent breakouts, we need to apply a good pregnancy acne treatment. While the best method can vary by person, there are some that should definitely be avoided. This is because they could cause birth defects and other complications.

Taking Isotretinoin can cause babies to become deformed because it has a negative effect on the brain, heart and other parts of the body. Tetracycline can cause problems with bone growth of the fetus. Since there is a lack of information with certain Topical Retinoids (such as Adapalene), they should also be avoided. While this is not a comprehensive list, you should definitely not consider the above an option

To prevent breakout of pimples, you may want to try the following:
- Wash your face morning and night using a safe cleanser or soap without scrubbing too hard.
- If you are using a moisturizer, make sure that it is oil free.
- Avoid feeling, touching or popping your current pimples to avoid scars or further irritation
- If you wear makeup, try to use a water based product that will not clog your pores
- Exercise and Eat Healthy
- Drink proper amount of water and avoid soda or fuzzy drinks.
If you currently have a breakout, you will want to find a pregnancy acne treatment while following the prevention steps above. Finding something that has worked for many other pregnant women may work for you as well. The following are some natural remedies you may want to consider:
- Tea Tree Oil for your most affected areas. It can reduce redness and itchiness.
- Use ice cubes or anything cold to reduce the swelling of appearing pimples
- Apply some citric fruit juice on your face for 10 - 12 minutes before cleaning it off with water.

These are just some natural options that may help. It's always good to stay positive and not dwell on this as pregnancy is hard enough as it is. You do not necessarily have to go out and spend a fortune on different cremes. It's possible to do it with some things that you already have in your house.

Lastly, it's important not compare yourself with other pregnant women. Some women may have more acne than others while pregnant. Always do your research and seek medical advice before trying anything.
