An electronic cigarette is an alternative solution to inhale nicotine in lieu of smoking real tobacco rich cigarettes. You can find them in a number of shapes and sizes. Some emulate the look of real cigarettes, cigars and pipes, but many look like ballpoint pens. The device is battery operated and delivers doses of nicotine by way of a vaporized solution.
They're available in automatic and manual models. When a user inhales through an automatic device, a sensor activates the atomizer and it vaporizes the nicotine fluid stored in the cartridge. When using a manual model, the user must press a button to activate the atomizer to produce the vapor.
There are four main parts to an electronic cigarette device:
* The mouthpiece is a cartridge which is filled with a liquid that may or may not contain nicotine. The special design of the electronic cigarette allows the vapor from the liquid to be pulled into the user's mouth. The liquid is available in different flavors and concentrations of nicotine, which ranges from zero to high doses. When the liquid is used up, it can be replaced with another pre-filled plastic cartridge or refilled by the user. There are also mouthpieces designed that allows the user to drip the fluid directly into the mouthpiece from the tip.
* The atomizer heats the liquid and serves to vaporize it so that the user can inhale the nicotine. The average life span of an atomizer is about one month. Some pre-filled cartridges come packaged with an atomizer.
* Most electronic cigarettes come with a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The life of the battery depends on the type, size and frequency of use. They can be recharged using a wall outlet, car charger or a USB port in computers.
* There's an LED light on the end of the device which indicates that the electronic cigarette is in use. This usually comes in optional colors.
What's unique about electronic cigarettes? They have less harmful toxins than the ones found in normal cigarettes. It allows the user to smoke a small part of the cartridge, put it away, and then finish it later. No lighters or ashtrays are needed. It's cheaper to use than buying regular cigarettes in comparison. These devices give off no smoke, so they can be used in public places even if there is a no smoking ordinance. The vapor that is exhaled by the user is pure water that dissipates quickly.
