The spine is one of the most amazing parts of human body. It is the gateway for the brain to be an effective and powerful tool, while still making it possible for our bodies to move in many different amazing ways.

It is also a very complex part of the body. It literally has hundreds of parts that make it function at its capacity, which lets you do exactly what you want to do with your body.

Because it is complex, the back is easily susceptible to pain. Most people have unfortunately experienced this, and the most common form of this pain resides in the lower back.

So have you ever wondered why the lower part the most susceptible to pain and discomfort? There is actually a very good explanation for this, and the answer resides in the actual part of the spine that controls and regulates your lower back.

This part of the body is called the lumbar. You are probably familiar with the term but have no idea what it is or what it does.

You might sit on a chair during your work day that is designated with "lumbar support". But that might be all you know about this part of the back!

By knowing about what the lumbar is, it can be easier to understand why it is so easy to be plagued with discomfort there. Here is a quick crash course on what it is and what its functions are.

The lumbar is the region of your abdomen between the diaphragm and the pelvis. This is the more loose definition, but most people refer to it as the lower spine.

This region is home to five of your vertebrate, which is the five largest and strongest vertebrate in your entire spine. This region is also the place where your spine curves outward, which is common in most mammals.

The actual spinal cord that extends from your cord ends at the top of the lumbar, but many nerves still stream through the lumbar vertebrate where they are connected with other parts of your body.

This leads to some explanation of pain that the body sometimes has. Have you or someone else had pain in your back or legs because of the sciatic nerve? This problem originates in the lumbar.

In between each of your vertebra there is a nerve root. In your lower back, these nerve roots come together and form one single nerve, the sciatic nerve. This nerve is the single largest nerve in your entire body.

The sciatic nerve streams through the back of each one of your legs and eventually ends up in the feet. This can explain common sciatica discomfort.

If a nerve root in your vertebra is tampered with or pinched, then this pain will shoot all the way to your sciatica, and thus the pain will extend through your legs and feet.

Another common problem many may experience is lower back muscle pain. This can also be explained by the functions of the lumbar.

In that region, there are many muscles that have the primary objective of helping with rotation and flexibility. They can be easily stretched or torn if moved in an awkward way.

This is why it is so common to have lower back pain when improperly lifting a heavy object or twisting while lifting something. The muscles that are used are stretched and torn.

Sometimes this pain heals itself after a few days. Other times, the condition is more serious and a spinal doctor needs to be consulted for a diagnosis.

Because of the prevalence of these strong flexibility muscles, the lumbar is the region that supports most of your body weight. If this region is stretched to its capacity and used improperly, it is very easy to see why discomfort in this area is so common.

Now that you know a little bit more about this area, you can take measures to prevent yourself from getting discomfort there! Ask your doctor or look online for common problems that people deal with so that you can be informed and keep your back in a healthy state.
