You might have been playing at the company softball game and felt a sudden pop in your body; or you might have been picking up that heavy box of pots and pans to move when you felt the same uncomfortable sting.

The next thing you know, your back is in excruciating pain and you can't move your body at all! Does this sound familiar?

It's very common for many people (especially those in their adult or elderly years) to be going about their business and suddenly have their back give out. It can range from being annoying to feeling like someone stabbed you with a knife.

So what do you do in that situation? The best thing to do is eventually go to a trained professional that can diagnose and treat your condition.

Still, it could be several days until that doctor can see you, and you still have that pain destroying your day. You want to have that pain melt away as fast as you can.

For those who want to curb the pain before they go to see the doctor, there are many things that you can do to improve your condition. One of the best and easiest ways to do is to follow home remedies for back pain.

Here are some great ways for you to treat the problem in your home. Keep in mind, though, that they will improve your condition but will not solve the entire problem.

Massage: If you have family and friends around, you can ask them to massage the hurting area with their knuckles. It can also help for them to rub herbal oils on their hands, so as to soothe some of the pain.

As they continue to massage the area, they can slowly increase the pressure that they exert on your body. Eventually, much of the discomfort will disappear for a time so you can be granted more mobility.

A massage can relax the muscles and decrease the tension that you feel until you are able to see a medical professional.

Lift Items Properly: This tip is for those who have only mild or moderate discomfort. Those who have serious pain shouldn't be lifting anything anyway.

If your back pain originated from picking up a heavy box or piece of equipment, you probably did not pick it up in the proper way. There is a certain way that your body needs to be positioned when picking up something so that you will not get injured.

When you lift something, always bend your knees first before exerting pressure on your back. If the back is the only thing that is used to pick up the item, too much pressure is placed upon it and it could lead to stretched or torn muscles.

It's also important to remember to never twist your body when lifting something. This can cause serious problems with your vertebrate, which can lead to threatening conditions if it is ignored.

Sit in proper furniture: If you are experiencing discomfort on your backside, it is wise to avoid sitting in couches. Couches don't give your back enough support and can lead to further discomfort.

Sit in firm chairs that give your back a lot of support. You can increase the security by putting a pillow against the lumbar area of your back.

This will ensure that you are in the proper position and won't throw out your body anymore.

St. John's Wort: This is oil that can be purchased at many stores. When applied to the affected area, it can relieve much of the discomfort that you may have.

These are only a few of the different home remedies that you can take advantage of. You can check online for other ideas, or in the best scenario you can call your doctor and he can give you great advice on how to subside the pain for the time being.

Remember, none of these remedies will completely rid you of your problems. The most important thing to do is to get to a certified doctor that can look at your condition and see if there are any serious problems to be treated.
