Adding fiber to your diet is very essential as it offers a lot of health benefit. Many dieticians will suggest that you add fiber to your diet if you are trying to gain weight. If you suffer from constipation; fiber will help you fight this problem. It is found in two forms; soluble and insoluble fiber.

Soluble fiber acts as a sponge in your intestines. It mixes with the food turning it into a gel like substance. It reduces the absorption of glucose in the bloodstream; this is mainly found in low cholesterol diets. Insoluble fiber on the other hand is responsible for cleaning your system. It does not dissolve in the water it mixes with; instead it absorbs it and hence adds softness to the stool making it move comfortably.

Fiber is mainly found in food sources such as split peas, artichokes, apples, kidney beans, lentils, oranges, barley peas, almonds, soy bean and sunflower seeds. Many diets will recommend having a salad in the evening for dinner.

There are many simple easy to follow recipes you could try.
* The sprouted green gram salad is very easy to prepare. All you need to do is wash and drain a cup of sprouted green gram. Then add one finely chopped onion and tomato, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, a little cumin powder, some salt and red chilly powder to taste. Finally you can garnish it with some finely chopped coriander leaves. This makes a very tasty and authentic Indian salad. If you don't have any green gram you could substitute it with any other sprouted lentils.
* Another salad that won't take more that ten minutes to prepare; Mix 2 avocados that have been peeled and diced, one diced red apple, a tiny cup of raisins that were soaked in water. Once these three ingredients have been mixed well drizzle some honey and sprinkle sunflower seeds on the top.
* If you want something light then try this one; Take one finely chopped cabbage along with a chopped apple and a grated carrot. Mix all these in a large bowl. Place it on a place and top this mixture with a peeled and chopped orange, half a cup of sprouts and some sunflower seeds.

These are all quick and easy and have a lot of nutrients and vitamins. You can also combine these with foods such as tuna, eggs, chicken and cheese but what is important is to eat something green everyday.
