Flu is a common term that means Influenza. It is a disease caused by virus that is highly contagious. When someone gets infected with flu there is no cure for it and his best defense is his immune system. Flu can lead to infections of the nose, mouth, ears, throat, and lungs. It may come as surprising but it can actually lead to death. In fact in a year an average of 35,000 deaths recorded is caused by Influenza. If you let flu symptoms to get worsen it can lead to Pneumonia especially in young kids. Therefore it is important that you know certain remedies for flu that you can apply to your kids when they get sick.

You will know when one of your kids has flu when he is shivering, has high fever, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, cough, is tired, and nauseous.

Flu is caused by airborne viruses. In other words it is not easy to contain the disease since simply breathing the air could already get someone infected with it. Aside from breathing the air, it can also enter the body through your nose or your eyes. It can be transmitted when flu infected persons cough or sneeze. It can also get you infected if you get in contact with an infected object.

It is vital that you monitor your kid's situation properly if he has flu. He should have plenty of rest, get enough hours of sleep, and drink plenty of fluids. Children can get dehydrated easily which you do not want to happen. Therefore it is best that you provide him with hydrating salts which you can easily mix with water. It should not be taken in huge amounts though. It should be taken slowly in small proportions. You can let him use a spoon to sip it slowly.

One of the things that would also bother kids with flu is clogged up sinuses. Teach your kid how to blow his nose properly. You can also apply saline nose drops to unclog it as well as to keep his nose clean.

To give your child relief from the harsh effects of flu you can also provide him with other over-the-counter remedies. Such items could include cough drops, nasal sprays, decongestants, and pain relievers. If symptoms persist after 2 days you should consult a doctor just to make sure that the situation is not getting worse.

It is always a good idea to prevent it. There are certain things you can do such as getting your child vaccinated against flu each year. You can also get it for yourself. If your child is quite susceptible to colds and cough it is better not to bring him often to crowded areas.

Being infected with flu virus is not a pleasant experience especially for young kids. Make sure you apply these remedies for flu right after you see flu-like symptoms on your kids. Never hesitate to bring your kid to a doctor if you think it is getting out of hand.
