Our health is our main capital in everything that we do. Our day to day lives depend so much on the kind of health we have. No matter how we take care of our bodies though there are certain times in our lives that we get sick. You can never tell when you would get sick which is why it is best to be prepared at all times. Being prepared means a lot of things. One of which is having some saving in your bank to support your needs. Another thing which is equally important is having an individual health insurance plan.

Having a health insurance policy will prevent you from using your savings in the bank for health purposes. If you get hospitalized your insurance provider will take care of all the costs as long as you have the coverage for the kind of disease you have. Therefore it is essential to properly check the kinds of coverage you will have before closing the deal. What is equally important is to know the types of insurance plans available in the market today.

The first one on the list is called the Health Maintenance Organization or HMO. This is the most affordable healthcare plan available today. This type of plan includes preventative care. You will be paying a monthly premium in this kind of plan. This is so you would only need to pay small percentage of your doctor's fee every time you visit him for a consultation. The HMO plan providers usually encourage policy holders to visit their doctors regularly. This is the best way for them to maximize their benefits in this plan. One drawback about this plan is that you will have limited options in choosing your doctor. If you choose a doctor that is outside the network then you may have to pay for the entire doctor's fee.

The second one is called the Preferred Provider Organization otherwise known as the PPO. With this kind of insurance policy you will have the flexibility in choosing your doctor. Aside from that you will not be required a referral to see a medical expert. However if you need to choose a specialist outside your provider's network the payment is usually higher. This could mean that they will only shoulder small amount of the doctor's fee. This is still affordable though which makes it quite popular.

The last one is called the POS or the Point of Service plans. People usually consider this as a hybrid between the previous two types of insurance plans. Choosing this kind of plan will give you freedom in selecting your doctor while enjoying low consultation charges. This is by far the most attractive kind of plans but is also the most expensive.

Get more familiar with these three types of individual health insurance plan. It will help you in deciding which insurance provider you would choose for your policy.
