Losing weight can be a tough thing to accomplish, but keeping it off is something that requires dedication, planning and more dedication. It's easy to fall off the wagon and hit the drive thru for a double cheeseburger and fries or to make excuses like, it's too cold and rainy to go for a jog. More often than not someone who loses weight gives into these vices because it's convenient. That's where the dedication and planning come into play when attempting to adopt a healthier way of living.

Completely changing your diet can be daunting so take the time to carefully and thoroughly plan out your meals 1 to 2 weeks at a time. Make sure they are healthy by utilizing the countless foods provided to us by nature i.e. fruits and vegetables. Since convenience is something that we value greatly, go out of your way to prepare ahead of time menu items that you can take on the go, something that will cure your hunger and not leave you making hasty eating decisions on the run. Use the power of the internet to look for recipes that others have found helpful in filling the void left from the super satisfying but not so helpful foods that got us into this predicament in the first place. Eating healthy does not mean you don't have to enjoy what you eat and it doesn't have to be bad for you to be delicious.

Controlling your portions is also a huge factor in keeping your weight off. Eating 5-6 smaller meals a day can help speed up your metabolism while allowing more nutrients to be absorbed by your body. Smaller meals also decrease the amount of fat stored by the body by not overloading it with more calories than it can process at a time. Exercise is not only a weight loss tool but a way to keep our bodies in tip top shape and able to fight off disease and illness. We all have very busy schedules and finding time to exercise can seem almost impossible. Waking up an hour early to go for a jog, or maybe biking to work can get the job done. Be creative; think outside the box, there are a million and one ways to get enough exercise to keep you running at your peak. Take dance lessons, or just get up and dance. Dancing is a fantastic way to keep in shape while having fun doing it.

The hardest part about keeping off weight is self discipline. It's easy to think, "Hey I've been very good lately I deserve this candy bar" but that's where the slope gets slippery, one thing leads to another and you're right back to step 1. It's all in your head just like with smokers, it's a mental game and to win you must be mentally strong. Set goals, make a plan to achieve those goals and stick to it. Don't let the food chains that supply us with a quick fix to our long term problems dictate what and when you eat. Do it on your own terms, if you want to change your way of life you are the only one that can make that happen. You can't put your weight under the pillow and wait for the fat fairy to come take it away.
