You are what you eat. With about two thirds of our population being overweight it's safe to assume we are not properly fueling our bodies. Eating healthy foods is not only an efficient way to lose weight but it can also to prevent a variety of health problems later on in life. From the time we were children, being forced to eat our vegetables before being excused from the table in other words, has been a chore. Fast food chains do not have bananas or peas on there dollar menus, even most juices purchased in stores are heavily altered versions of a fruit or vegetable mostly with added sugars and sweeteners. So what can we do to make eating healthy convenient for our on the go lifestyles?

Juicers are a great way to get essential vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables without lugging around a sack of oranges. Experiment with your favorite fruits and vegetables mixing and matching them into a yummy all natural juice that when poured into an on the go plastic bottle is a cheap healthy alternative to the bottle of pop you pick up at the corner store on your way to work. They can also be frozen for a tasty frozen treat that lacks all of the artificial sweeteners and sugars that hinder us in our battles to lose weight. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After a 7-8 hour stint without fuel your body's metabolism is crawling at a snail's pace and when trying to lose weight the last thing you need is a slow metabolism. Eating a healthy meal when the rooster crows is a great way to jump start your pound shedding ability. Oatmeal is a great breakfast food that is quick to prepare and packed with fiber. Try cutting up apples or adding blue berries, raspberries or strawberries to the dish to make it not only healthy but tasty as well. Eggs have always been a traditional breakfast food but coupled with the bacon or sausage and white toast the unhealthy balances out the healthy. So try adding chopped onions or peppers to your eggs and use whole wheat toast in place of the white.

Soy milk is a rapidly growing trend in the health food world, and rightfully so. Soy products are a great way to give your body all the amino acids it requires while containing a fraction of the fat and calories that come with other protein sources. Soy shakes are a great weight loss tool. They are delicious, packed with protein and they help fight the urge to over eat by making you feel full longer. Soy is also cholesterol free and actually lowers our LDL, bad cholesterol, which is only made worse by many dairy products.

Whatever your weight loss goal it all begins with what you put into your mouth. You can exercise all you want but if your using refined carbohydrates (cakes, cookies, sweets) and other fast food, or any other food that is high in fats, salts, and sugars to fuel your fire you'll be fighting an uphill battle. So chop up some onions, dice a carrot, peel an orange and get on the road to healthy living by utilizing everything Mother Nature has provided us with to keep our minds, bodies, and souls in sync.
