Perspiration is a process by which our body regulates itself under increased temperature conditions. This is characterised by the opening up of the sweat glands to secrete sweat on to the surface of the skin so as to cool down the body. When perspiration occurs in excessive quantity irrespective to the environmental conditions, then, such a state is termed as Hyperhidrosis. Palmar hyperhidrosis basically relates to excessive sweating from the palms of the hand and the sole of the feet.

So, are there any ways to stop palmar hyperhidrosis, completely? Well, the answer is both yes and no. The 'No' is because a solution that completely and perpetually eliminates the disorder is a fallacy considering the fact that it is an inborn problem in the body. The 'Yes' answer considers temporary relief from the problem, which is absolutely possible.

While there are many methods, some medical and some natural, that are said to control palmar hyperhidrosis, not everything can be trusted. Mentioned below are some practical ways to stop palmer hyperhidrosis, or reduce it at the least:

* Use of a hand towel is the basic way to stop the seat from settling within the lines and crevices of your palms. Also, you could try applying aluminium based anti perspiration solutions on your palms. Avoid using moisturisers on your palms as it will only intensify the sweating process. Even moisture absorbers like talcum and cornstarch can be tried, and if they work then they will prove effective over the long term.

* Because excessive sweating is linked to hypertension, therefore, it may not be such a bad idea to try the drug 'Terazosin' or 'Inderal' post medical consultation. The latter is used to control stage fright. Also consult your doctor on another drug category known as beta blocker. It too has shown effectiveness in certain cases.

* Another procedure is Iontophorosesis. It is a way of temporarily thickening your epithelial (skin) cells so as to close the sweat glands for the duration. This procedure requires you to apply it daily for at least 10-15 minutes and the long term results start to show after 2-3 weeks of usage. Once the sweating reduces drastically, then you only need to do it once every 10 days or so.

The important thing is that Palmar Hyperhidrosis is treatable and controllable through determined efforts. Hence, it is better if you stay pragmatic on the existence and elimination prospects of the condition.
