Running is hard on the knees. And although through extensive and strenuous runs we can slim and tone our overly lumpy body, there is no real muscle strengthening done in a thirty minute run.

Like running, swimming presents similar struggles to the individual that wants to experience the poise and swagger of honing a sculpted body. Swimming gives us a great cardiovascular workout and develops muscle strength in the main parts of the body; but a major part of swimming is having body fat to float.

Basketball is more of an upper body workout, and soccer is lower. All other sports are interactive and need planning and organization.

Lets face it, going to the gym is intimidating and usually everyone comes out looking like a cartoon, with a defined and over worked upper body combined with chicken-twig legs. What option is there for the individual that doesn't want to look like an ape, is limited on time and wants an all-in-compassing fitness program . . . Boxing.

You are all probably scratching your head and saying is this guy nuts. Trust me it's PHENOMENAL.

Through boxing you work the upper body, lower body, core, muscles strength, and shape those parts that we all know are fun the show off. And the cardiovascular workout you will experiment boxing is like nothing you have ever imagined.

Based on a three minute of increment of work and 45 seconds of rest. Just from that type of regimen the heart is being exposed to something completely different and strenuous.
But the best part of boxing for fitness reasons is the benefit of obtaining the results desired in quick amounts of time.

You must be determined to do what a trainer tells you and stick with it but it will be simple and you will be liberated aggression wise every time. You will come out of the workout feeling like a new man or woman, full of power and rejuvenation.

Yes, there are some equipment products needed but nothing major. No dumbells or bench for chest press.

The major equipment requirements are a jump rope and a big punching bag plus the gloves which in total can cost from 60 to 90 dollars. It is most recommended that you meet with a trainer to understand and form the needed boxing techniques.

Meet with this trainer on occasion to improve the routine and add some variety as well as evaluate your progress. This is probably the most exciting workout you will ever experience and most fun you will ever have losing weight, but there is a level of self discipline needed.

On a personal level I can give a fairly qualifying testimony of this incredible workout. A good friend of mine is Ray Edward Lunny III, the Pride of Redwood City, California, and during the mid 70's the North American Junior Lightweight Champion and No. 3 in the world as a pro fighter.

Now at passed his 50's can still give me the best beating I have ever had. And I am no lightweight, at 5'9'' and 160lbs. having played soccer and basketball all my life and being completely devoted to fitness I am quick and can pack a punch.

But I have never been so tired in any workout as I have been after three rounds with the veteran. Just warming up with a couple of shadow bowing drills had me pouring down sweat like Niagara Falls.

I can vividly remember sparring with him and doing a 3 minute round of just left jabs. By the end I thought my left arm was going to fall off and this is coming from a guy that once used to shoot 1000 three pointers in 45 minutes with the left when I am naturally a right handed shooter.

Boxing is no cake walk. It is the best experience ever and works all the major parts of the body.

Get used to the idea of Boxing becoming a major player in the fitness world. Get up to speed before it becomes a fad.

The question is not whether you should start boxing or not, it is when? Have fun and begin experiencing the "Sweet Science".

Stick with it and become the prize fighting Champion of your home.
