You've made the right decision and decided to join a spinning class for a good variation on your exercise routine. You won't be sorry with your decision!

Joining an exercise bike class has so many advantages. A stationary bike can give you a great cardiovascular workout and can give your heart the work it needs to stay healthy.

Joining a class can also make it possible for you to bike year-round, regardless of the snow, rain, or other hazardous elements that could be falling from the sky. This is a great advantage for those passionate bikers who can't seem to get enough pedaling in, even in the peak of summer.

You will have a great time in whatever spinning class you have chosen. But before you go to your first session, there are some rules of etiquette that you need to know and follow so that you can be courteous to yourself, the instructor, and the other riders in the room.

First of all, before I talk about some of the rules, it is important to know that you should always check with your specific gym to see if they have any specific rules for their cycling classes. Many fitness centers will have special rules that you have to follow that might not be found anywhere else.

With that in mind, let's get cracking! Here are some of the most important things to remember before you strap your feet onto those pedals:

Be on time: This should be self-explanatory, but many people think that they can show up to class whenever they want. In the cycling world, this is not true!

Always be on time to your classes. Usually the instruction will always start on time and will always end on time.

Once the instruction has begun, the doors will be closed. Usually they won't let in latecomers so that will give you more incentive to get your butt there earlier!

If you are a beginning spinner, it is also good to get there about 10 to 15 minutes earlier. This will give you time to get to know the instructor, get to know your exercise bike, and adjust the seat or handlebars to your liking.

Must-have items: There are two things that you will usually need for most classes. The first item is a heart rate monitor.

Now sometimes not every gym will require these, but many do. A heart rate monitor can help you know how hard you can push yourself and help you to become better.

It can also help the instructor know how well you are working. Finally, it can be a safety precaution to make sure nobody's heart rate is getting too high, which could be a danger.

The second item should be a no-brainer, but many people blatantly forget how important it is. It's water!

Most classes vehemently require all participants to drink a lot of water. This is to ensure that no one of the participants get dehydrated and put their bodies at risk.

Put on spin shoes only in the room: Another rule that is crucial is to always remember to put your spins shoes on once you are in the cycling room. Don't ever put them on before, and don't wear them outside after.

The cycling room may be cleat-friendly, but other rooms in the gym won't. Cleats can damage wood floor and other surfaces and can leave a hefty repair bill for those who have to deal with it.

Clean off your sweat: Remember to do this, because it is just courteous to do so. Period.

I think you could imagine how mad you would be if you came to your spinning instruction and your bike was covered in smelly sweat. Now think how another person would feel the same way if you left them a little nasty B.O. present.

Always clean your bike after you use it, with no exceptions. You can bring a clean cloth and after you are done, clean every part of the bike imaginable and make sure there is no sweat, dirt, or grime in any of the nooks and crannies.

This will ensure that the person after you will have a good cycling experience; and it can help make the bike safer because there will be less dirt and sweat to tamper with the friction of the machine.
