One in eight hundred new born babies are afflicted with Down's syndrome. This is a condition that results in a person having three chromosome21 in the body instead of just two. Parents who have children with this condition can seek groups or institutions who offer Down syndrome help.

It always helps to understand the problems we are facing, so look for a good source of information. You can always ask your pediatrician, or seek a social worker in the hospital or maybe discuss it with another parent of a child with Down's syndrome. There are also abundant help available over the internet but having someone to talk to can better ease one's apprehensions.

This person should be willing to offer not just practical advice but also emotional support. Knowing that someone is always nearby ready to give support can make a positive adjustment as you realize that people with this syndrome can live lives that are as full and rewarding as anyone else.

It is normal to experience a whole range of emotions in situations like these, so do not forget that that your spouse is also experiencing the same as a response to the news. These emotional responses may differ, and your spouse may not be able to give the support that you want due to their own reactions. Finding an alternative source of support and hang on until you are both strong to support each other again.

Children can also offer loads of emotional help; it is surprising how accepting they can be. Siblings are always excited about the arrival of a new baby and they will only be happy that they are there to help out when they can. Do not hesitate to present the problem to your other children but take care to give information only in a simple manner they can understand.

Most importantly, take care of your baby. The fastest way of getting over the shock and pain of hearing your baby has an incurable disability is getting to know your child.

Your child will need constant medical assistance. Physical and speech therapy can help your child develop to a person as normal as possible or as allowed by our present society.

Screening for medical problems that come with this disorder help prevent further abnormalities from developing. The already existing health difficulties can also be corrected by surgery and other treatments.

Enriched family environments noticeably improve the affected individuals' capabilities to learn and have meaningful lives.

The government also provides Down syndrome help in many ways like initiating co-ordination for the improvement of services aimed to aid children with this disability. Assistance to parents are also provided for better understanding their offspring's condition so they can better provide proper care.
