Let's face it, in our youth-oriented culture, our appearance is vitally important. Though we may not like it, a pleasing, youthful, healthy appearance is probably more necessary than ever in the current competitive job market with many more applicants than jobs available. Experience and a great resume just aren't enough to keep pace these days. Looking good does more than offer a great first impression to others. It gives us the self-confidence we need to get out there and sell ourselves to ensure success.

There are many procedures available today that can have dramatic effects. Botox and facial fillers can offer almost instant, risk-free wrinkle treatment for smoother, younger-looking skin. Botox works by paralyzing the muscle, reducing the tension, resulting in smoothing out wrinkles and creases. Effects can usually be seen within a day or two and last for several months. Derma fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, collagen, and others are gels that are injected into the dermis of the skin to add volume to wrinkles and folds for instant results. Because the gels are absorbed by the body, the treatment needs to be repeated every few months.

For more permanent results, there are a number of surgical options that can reverse the appearance of aging. Eyes are often the first place where the effects of aging are most apparent. Drooping eyelids, and puffy, dark circles under the eyes make one look tired and worn-out even when well-rested. An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, of the upper and lower eyelids can rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes. An eyebrow lift may be combined to address drooping eyebrows as well if this is an issue.

Thinning lips is another sign of aging that can be easily addressed with derma filler or lip enhancing surgery. The derma filler injections are temporary but will give you the opportunity to "try on" fuller, more youthful lips in a risk-free way. If you like the look and want to make those fuller lips permanent, without the need to repeat the filler treatments, surgery is always an option.

For the rest of the body, one might consider liposuction to remove fat deposits from the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks for a more sleek appearance. "Mommy make-overs" that include a tummy tuck and breast lift can restore a woman's body to its original condition before giving birth, and better. We can't turn back the clocks on aging, but restorative facial procedures and plastic surgery can make it look as though we did.
