Yoga encourages muscle tone and flexibility and is also beneficial in relieving stress. But is it possible to also use yoga for a better sex life? Yoga and health benefits are known to go hand in hand, but is improved sexual functioning also one its benefits? Many believe that this is true since yoga, in addition to providing physical benefits, also improves a person's emotional state. Therefore yoga could be used to foster a more fulfilling sexual relationship between partners.

One of the effects of practicing yoga is that is enables a person to become aware of the sensations within the body. The poses that yoga prescribes focus on experiencing each and every sensation that takes place throughout the body. The implications of this on sex life are that one is able to experience the pleasurable sensations during sex in a more wholesome manner. It also helps to keep other thoughts away and allows the person to remain rooted to the experience. Studies have shown that people who perform yoga regularly are less likely to gain weight than those who do not practice yoga at all. This increased fitness level ensures a higher level of concentration and respect for the body. Those with hectic work schedules and fast-paced lifestyles may often find that they are too tired for sex. Yoga promotes better sleep and hence one is likely to feel more rested even on busy days. Another effect of yoga is that enables a person to become comfortable even in vulnerable positions. Many yoga poses involve full backbends and other such positions. Many feel that this also translates to more comfort and intimacy during sexual relations. There are numerous benefits of yoga poses and improved blood flow is one of them. Many poses enhance the flow of blood to the pelvic region. The muscles of this area are also strengthened as a result of some yoga exercises. This improves the performance of these muscles during sex. Couples can further deepen the relationship between yoga and sex, by performing the exercises with each other.

There are also some special benefits of yoga for men. Since yoga improves flexibility and provided better self-control, it helps to treat the problem of premature ejaculation. Yoga poses such as the bow pose and camel pose are especially useful in curing this problem. It is important to remember that one should perform yoga exercises only after consultation with a doctor.
