If you're looking to lose weight, carrying out regular exercise should make up a large portion of your weight loss regime. Whether it's daily running on the Cornish coast, workouts in a gym in London every other day or simply walking for several miles over the North Yorkshire Moors every weekend, ensuring that you are moving around and working your body is imperative to any long term weight loss.

Whilst exercise is important, it is not only the factor that you have to consider and alongside it you should be consuming a very healthy and balanced diet.

With breakfast and lunch being two meals which are relatively easy to work out when on a diet - a bowl of oatmeal or sugar free cereal with skimmed milk is a great idea for breakfast and lunch could be a chicken salad without a dressing or a jacket potato with beans and salad), it's dinner where most people fall down.

To help you on your way to losing weight, these 2 recipes should provide you with meals which you can create not only quickly and easily but which are very healthy as well as being filling.

1. Salmon with egg friend rice - most health professionals recommend that you eat at least two portions of oily fish each week and salmon is the perfect choice for most, as it is oily, healthy and extremely tasty.

How you cook the salmon is your choice, just move away from any style that requires oil. Grilling, poaching and cooking in tinfoil in the oven are all great examples of how to cook salmon without the use of any additional oils.

Whilst the salmon is cooking, boil a portion of wholegrain rice and when this is almost soft, boil a large portion of peas, sweet corn, peppers and green beans (the frozen variety are suitable) and once the rice and vegetables have boiled, drain both.

Keeping the rice in the pan on a very low heat, pour in the vegetables and stir. Add two eggs into the mix and continue to stir whilst also adding a splash of soy sauce, a few chilli flakes and a sprinkling of mixed herbs.

Serve alongside the salmon with salt, pepper and a touch of lemon juice.

2. Pasta with vegetables and herbs - start by boiling a portion of wholegrain pasta in some very lightly salted water.

Chop up some spring onions, peppers and a selection of mushrooms and with frozen peas and sweet corn, throw them into a wok on a medium heat.

Once the pasta has boiled, add that to the wok, turning the heat down. Stir together, adding some chopped cherry tomatoes, a tablespoon of tomato puree, pepper, crushed chillies (to your own taste - a tea spoon is generally hot enough for most)and some finely chopped fresh basil.

Serve on a plate with a small sprinkling of cheddar.

Remember, going to a gym in London or walking for miles on a weekend is a great way to get fit - but if you're not eating the right foods, you're going to struggle to both lose weight and keep it off.
