In the past, people did almost everything manually. Most people grew up doing housework and other things with their own hands, without the use of any gadgets, tools and other cleaning equipment. Today, you can pretty much find almost all imaginable kinds of electronic equipment and handy tools to help you out in whatever you need to do. People tend to drive their car even when they are just visiting a friend who lives three blocks away.

Things can also be delivered at your doorstep by just calling a hotline, eliminating the need to get out of bed and go to the store. Even children have their own handy game consoles and gadgets which keep them busy indoors instead of going out and playing in the yard or at the park. This is why most individuals nowadays find themselves leading sedentary lifestyles; and when you are inactive, you tend to be more prone in developing health conditions and illnesses.

If you are looking into becoming fitter through leading a more active lifestyle, your best option would be to start exercising. You can do this either through signing up for a gym membership or through creating an exercise routine that you can do at home. However, with all the types of exercises today, it is hard to distinguish which is the most suitable for you. Here are some exercises which could jumpstart your fitness program.

1. Squats

Although doing squats is one of the most basic forms of exercise, it is also one of the most effective if you want to make sure that you are getting a total body workout. This is because when you do squats, you are able to work out several muscle groups at once, including your core, hamstrings, quads and calves. Try to make it a point that you are able to incorporate squats into your exercise routine. For instance, if you are lifting some weights, try squatting at the same time. This would increase the number of calories that you are able to burn while helping your body to build more lean muscle mass.

2. Push-ups

Doing push-ups is also be another type of exercise that can help you in achieving your goal of becoming leaner and fitter. Push-ups can easily help you strengthen and tone your chest, triceps, back, shoulders and abs. If you find yourself having a hard time executing a "full" push-up, then you can start doing the modified version. The modified version is done by being on your knees as you execute push-ups. You can also try the other variations of the push-up such as the wall push-up and the counter push-up as you work your way into being able to do the standard push-up. Later on, once you get the hang of it, you can try harder variations like the wide hands push-up and closed hands push-up.

3. Running or Walking Uphill and Downhill

If you have been looking for an excellent way that can improve your overall health and strengthen your cardiovascular fitness, then this would be the best exercise to do on a regular basis. If you do not live near any hills, you can look for a road or street in your neighbourhood which has the elevation that is similar to a hillside. You can also try walking or running up and down your stairs.

4. Chin-Ups and Pull-Ups

These exercises are great if you like to work out your back and arms. Although some women think that pull-ups and chin-ups are exercises which are only suitable for men, with practice, these can be properly executed by women.

These are just some of the exercises which you can do in order to start having the dream figure you have always wanted.
