Trying to lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds does not have much difference. Losing weight is governed by the same set of principles - the laws of physics. And before starting any weight loss regimen, it is of paramount importance to understand these laws and their direct relation to the body. To effectively lose weight, it is a must to understand the physiological processes that occur continuously inside the human body.

Have you ever wondered what factors contribute to body weight? The food you eat, the amount of water you drink, the daily activities you do, all of them contribute to body weight. And this is all governed under one single law in Physics which states that your body weight is directly proportional to the amount of energy you take. So where does all the energy come from?

When people eat, the food is chemically broken down to simpler substances. And eventually, it is converted to energy. This is also the case when drinking any form of liquid. The energy is used as fuel to give your body power to do daily activities. However, people who are less active tend to have excess energy. Excess energy is stored by the body in the form of fat. The excess energy, when in small amounts, will not show any visible physical change in your body. However, there are people who take in more energy than they actually use them. If this is the case, then a lot of energy is being converted to fat for storage. This causes an increase of body weight.

Taking the same principles into consideration, body weight can easily be managed. Less active people who wish to lose weight must exercise more often in order to burn the excess energy in the form of fat. This allows them to decrease their overall body weight. However, losing weight is not as easy for people who have different basal metabolic rate. BMR or basal metabolic rate is simply the amount of calories one burns in order to operate life sustaining processes. There are people who have higher or lower BMR. This accounts for their need to lose / gain weight.

These days, losing weight is not as hard as it was before. That is because there is a wide array of weight loss regimens to choose from. Of course, one should choose a weight loss program that fits his lifestyle. Otherwise, it would not be effective. By also keeping in mind the food you take and the activities that you engage in, managing your weight could not get any easier.
