Nurses are a very important part of the health care industry. Doctors do not have the time to do everything for their patients and that is where the nurse comes in. When a doctor has something more pressing to attend to then the nurse can handle the problems that are not life threatening. Not all nurses have the same duties. The duties of the nurse will depend on where she or he works.

If a nurse works in an emergency room then their duties will involved helping the doctor with the patients. If some one comes into the emergency room the nurse is usually the one that gets all the information from the patient for the doctor to look over. Once the doctor has looked over the information and spoken with the patient the nurse is usually the one that administers the medications that the doctor orders.

The emergency room has too many people every day for the doctor to administer medications to each one of them. When the nurses help the doctor with his patients everyone is able to get what they need much quicker. If you had to wait for the doctor to give you the medication you would probably be at the emergency room for quite a while.

If a nurse works in a private doctors office then her duties are usually pretty minimal. She may have to draw blood if the doctor orders blood test. The nurse may have to take a urine sample occasionally. However, most of the nurses day is spent checking blood pressure, taking temperatures, and weighing people.

If you are planning to become a nurse then you will need to decide which type of work would fit you best. If you work for a doctor in his office then you will have a regular schedule usually from 9 to 5 with weekends off. If you work at a hospital your hours could change from one week to the next and you may be asked to work weekends and holidays.

There are going to be pros and cons to consider for each working environment. Nurses that work at hospitals have the chance to actually help doctors save lives. If a nurse is working in a private doctors office there are probably going to be very few chances to actually save a life. Of course you will be helping to keep the patients healthy but not the same way as a nurse in the emergency room.

If you are working in an emergency room you may also have to see people die. This is something that some people just can not handle. Working in a private doctors office you are much less likely to see someone die than in the emergency room.

You know what kind of person you are so you need to decide which working environment will fit you best. If you are not comfortable working in an emergency room then you should send your resume to the doctors in your area. It does not really matter where a nurse works because she will be doing good and helping others where ever she works.
