The skin is one gauge of the age of a person - the lines and wrinkles in the face, neck and hands. Different cosmetic products come out in the industry to be tried. Different methods of eliminating the wrinkles are invented. Many skin rejuvenation procedures had already been offered - laser resurfacing, plasma resurfacing, dermabrasion, deep chemical peel and many more. Skin needling is one procedure that follows the principle of these skin rejuvenation methods.

Skin needling is percutaneous collagen induction - a term which is simplified by saying that this is a method that basically consists of prickling the skin with very thin needles (can this be like acupuncture?). Users had attested to several benefits of this process, the most common of which are skin firmness, reduction in skin sagging and fine wrinkles, stretch marks and small scars.

How do you prepare the skin for needling?

There are some practitioners of needling that recommend the use of topical formulas. They recommend use of these topical cream or ointment for a week or more prior to the actual procedure. Topical may be vitamin A, retinoids such as tretinoin and Vitamin C. The rationale given for use of this pre-treatment method is to be able to synthesize the collagen and elastin thus enhancing the skin repair process.

Benefits from skin needling procedure

With skin needling, collagen and elastin deposition are increased and the result is thicker skin. The healing period is short compared to other procedures because needling does not cause too much damage to the skin. This procedure is less expensive. The process is less risky than the other procedures and it can be safely done on dry and pigmented skin. This can be done with topical anesthesia. The technique is so simple and it can be easily done by anybody with the use of specialized tools. It would not require the services of plastic surgeons or dermatologists.

The process can be done in most part of the body - neck, arms, abdomen, thighs and even areas between the breast and buttocks. The over-all effect is skin tightness. The process is effective in eradicating fine wrinkles, minor scars, particularly acne scars, and stretch marks. It prevents pre-mature skin sagging.

Here is a drawback of the process but one which is easily addressed. Compared to laser resurfacing, needling does not produce much collagen deposition. However, as treatment is repeatedly done, the results are cumulative. Thus after several sessions of the process, the results can already be comparable to that of laser resurfacing. And this is of course, much less expensive.

Skin rejuvenation is the goal of every individual. First, the natural and herbal methods are used. If they fail, then the use of commercially manufactured cosmetic products is tried. But if despite these processes you still fail, you can resort to a safe non-invasive method - the skin needling.
