Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common injuries that is encountered by many especially those who uses their hands in repetitive motions. In these times that people are mostly using their computers and laptops to work, the pressure on the hands can cause pain as the median nerve can be pinched and may lose sensation.

But of course, you can do something to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. You don't have to wait to feel the pain before acting upon it. To be able to help you take care of your hands and wrists and enjoy pain-free hands, here are a few things that you can do.

- Limit your time in doing repetitive actions with your hands such as using the keyboard. Repetitive motion causes pressure in the hands and wrists and may lead to the swelling of the tendons, causing more pain to the nerves. It may also cause you hands to feel a tingling sensation that can run to your arms and into your shoulders.

- Allow your hands and wrists to rest if you are doing repetitive motions with it. If you cannot totally avoid the repetitive tasks, then you can help yourself by resting in between tasks. Stand up and exercise your hands or just let it hang loosely to rest.

- Use a wrist rest or wrist pad for your wrist when you are using your keyboard. This way, your wrists can rest on a support under it while you are working. This will also get rid of the stress on your wrists, as it will level your wrists with the keyboard.

- Exercise. Exercising your arms, hands and wrists can be good to help you avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, but of course, exercising your entire body can help you stay healthy and free from other diseases and illnesses that can also cause carpal tunnel such as diabetes and arthritis. Of course, this painful condition is not just about repetitive motion but also on diseases that are also causes of carpal tunnel syndrome.

- Make sure you are working on an ergonomic workspace. Whether you are working at home or at the office, make sure that you have a working station that allow you to move freely and allow you to work with ease. Learning how to place your things can help a lot in maintaining good posture while at work and allows you to avoid any pain while working.

Other things that you can do to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome is to lose weight if you are overweight. Of course, you have to seek treatment as well if you are already feeling the pain of such condition. You can also seek alternative therapies as well. Acupuncture can be a good practice to relax your muscles and help blood circulation as well. Chiropractic care can also help you in avoiding this painful condition.

Of course, if you already have carpal tunnel problems, it is also important to seek early treatment.
