When you are on an elliptical there are many different safety precautions that you have to keep in mind. Many people do not think about how they can be safer on a machine that seems pretty safe from the start.

First, you have to make sure that you know how to operate the machine. The exercising that you are doing on the machine will also be enhanced if you know how to increase and decrease the resistance, the incline and your speed.

When you step on the machine and you start to pedal you will notice that the screen will light up. This means that you can now start to control different parts of the machine and change your workout to your own specifications.

As you start to change different settings on your machine you will be making your workout more difficult for yourself. If, at any point during the workout, you feel like it is getting to be too much you have to know how to change the settings.

You should also make sure that you are taking the time to change the settings for your body. If you see that someone else has the incline and the resistance high you may want to do the same without realizing your body's limit.

Make sure that you do not push yourself harder than you should be. When you start to feel pain on the machine you have to know how to stop the machine and stop working your muscles so you can stay safe.

After you know how to work the machine you should take the time to know how the safety mechanisms on the machine function. When you are on the machine you should attach the safety clip that is attached to the machine.

Many people think that it is excessive or ridiculous to wear this clip because they think they can just hop off when they get in trouble. Sometimes, you will not be able to hop off of the machine and you will need this safety clip.

This clip ensures that if you are to fall off of the machine all functions will stop. Many of the newer elliptical machines are built so that when you stop pedaling the machine will stop going and you will be safe.

If you do not have a safety clip on your machine than you will not need to use one. Taking the time to get to know your piece of equipment will provide you with invaluable safety mechanisms for your workout.

After you know the machine that you are using, you have to make sure that you are stretching and preparing for the machine properly. When you are using the machine your muscles should be prepared for the workout.

When you are not stretching and getting ready for the workout you will dramatically increase your chances of injury. When your muscles are stiff and not limber they will be much more prone to injury.

As you are stretching you should give yourself an ample amount of time to get your muscles warmed up. If you have been injured in the past or you are particularly worried about injury you should also participate in a warm up.

When you are warming up you should ease into the workout. This warm up will allow you to get the blood flowing into your muscles and warm up your muscles so that you can work hard throughout your workout.

There are a lot of people that do not understand how to keep their muscles warmed throughout their whole workout. When you keep your heart rate up you will be able to keep your muscles warm.

As you are working out you want to make sure that you keep your hear rate in the proper target zone. This will ensure that you are not going to hurt your heart during your workout and you will get the maximum results from the workout.

The elliptical is a fairly safe machine and if you are prone to injury it can be a great choice. You have to make sure that you are taking the time to prepare yourself for the workout so you can safely have an effective workout.

When you are on the elliptical focus on the movement of your feet, stay warm, work hard and you will be happy with the results you will start to see. When you are safe on the elliptical you will be able to push yourself to new physical limits.
