It has been estimated that approximately twelve million men and women will pay their respective doctors a visit this year due to one of the most common urinary problems on the face of the planet -- urinary tract infection or UTI.

Medical professionals have been treating this disease for years now, and yet the exact reason and cure for it has yet to be determined. The bacteria found in this type of infection starts in the bladder, which will go to your kidney and slowly affect your other organs if left untreated.

The ten million that will be affected as aforementioned are women, as they have a higher risk of acquiring this illness, compared to a meager two million men. Of course it's not fair but, facts are facts. Women have shorter urethra as compared to men.

This makes them more susceptible to UTI since a shorter urethra means shorter path for the UTI bacteria to reach a woman's bladder.

There has been a speculation as to whether there is a connection between UTI and delayed periods. So far, the only threat that every patient should be aware of is the possibility of the bacteria transferring to the kidneys should they let the problem go untreated.

Reasons you could be facing delayed periods are stress, pregnancy, illnesses or some form of medication. But having a UTI will not directly caused you delayed periods.

If you are starting to get worried about this, it's always best to seek the doctor's advice. However, if you have UTI, it's better if you can cure it first.

There are home remedies that one suffering from the illness should take note in order to get rid of unwanted bacteria. Perhaps the most common natural remedy for urinary tract infections is cranberry juice.

Aside from cranberry, cherry juice, and water from slowly boiled kidney bean pods, teas from lemon grass, parsley, Spanish eucalyptus, sage and black eyed peas are also common and effective ways to remedy the situation.

Onions, watermelon beetroots, and asparagus are also effective in treating urinary infections and disorders.

Another important thing that should never be neglected by people experiencing UTI or other urinary problems is the amount of water that he takes each day. It is best to drink at least two and a half liters of water per day not only to hydrate the system and flush out the toxins. And to dilute the bacteria causing the infection.

Processed foods, carbonated drinks, certain dairy products, junk and fast foods, and even spicy cuisines are prohibited for people suffering from this problem as this may only aggravate the situation. Not giving it enough thought could lead to bigger problems so it is best not to take it for granted.

Very importantly, avoid engaging in casual and unprotected sex, as this is one of the causes of urinary tract infection. The same importance should also be given with regards to one's hygiene, as personal hygiene affects one's over all physical well being, above all else.

There are a thousand other ways to take care of one's body, in order to live a fuller and happier life. Unfortunately, it only takes one (way) to destroy it. Give yourself a choice to love and take care of your self more. That way, people will learn to appreciate the wonderful person that is you.

And no, UTI does not caused delayed periods in a woman.
