Many women and some men, wish to undergo breast enlargement. This is a cosmetic procedure wherein the natural breasts of the woman or the man are augmented to appear fuller and larger. The bra cup size is one of the bases of choosing what size to upgrade to and many women, and also men, prefer larger sizes to what they already have. The procedure entails implanting a sac filled with silicone, saline or any other substance that can mimic the feel, appearance and movement of natural breasts. As with any other invasive form of surgery, there are some risks and possible complications that come with it. Breast enlargement is no exception to these risks and complications.

Risks and Possible Dangers

During the operation itself, the primary risks involved have something to do with bleeding and the adverse reaction of the patient's body to the anesthetic used. While there are tests that can basically screen these problems, these tests cannot actually guarantee that there will be no risks during the operation. Some people may feel tense or anxious before the operation and have an accelerated heart rate which the doctor will not like because it can complicate the operation. Although, the individual is placed under general anesthesia at this time, an accelerated heart beat can affect the incoming operation.

After the breast enlargement operation, there are more risks and possible complications that may arise. One of the major things that surgeons warn their patient's of is the risk of infection. The incisions made in the patient's body can become infected if the proper care and maintenance of these are compromised. This means the cuts need to be cleaned as often as recommended by the doctor and kept dry. Developing an infection can prompt the surgeon to remove the implants and treat the infection properly.

Scarring is also another complication that can stem from the incisions made during breast enlargement. The scars can develop on the skin or inside where the tissues are. Scarring in the skin may be more noticeable even if the incisions are made in the skin creases or the areola. Some individuals can develop red bumpy scars that are not aesthetically pleasing to look at. The development of capsular contracture (scarring around the implant) can render the breast hard and appear very unnatural. This will result to another operation to correct this complication. Sensitized skin in and around the breasts can also develop. This can be clear up in about six months or be permanent.
