We live in a changing world. Everything in our world culture is changing on a daily basis.

Some of this change is good. Each month, there seems to be a new technology that makes our lives a little easier and raises the bar for electronic competence.

We are driving faster cars and finding easier ways to communicate. Our world becomes more and more amazing each day.

But some of the change that we have to deal with is bad. One of the downsides deals with our safety.

Back in the 1950s, you could easily unlock your door at night and you would be perfectly safe. The thought of someone attacking you or robbing you was not in people's minds.

This is one of the things that has drastically changed as our world has become more advanced. We don't live in a candy-coated world, because some places and areas out there are very dangerous.

There are so many things that can threaten us. Thieves can easily break into our homes, and muggers or sexual assaulters can prey on people even on a neighborhood street.

For this reason, you need to be aware of your surroundings and be able to protect yourself. That is why many people, especially women, have turned to self-defense to help them feel protected and confident.

Many women sign up for self-defense classes or instruction, but sometimes this can get expensive for a technique that may not ever be used (hopefully!). This is why it could be a good idea to train for self-defense in the comfort of your own home.

If this sounds like a great idea for you, there are several things that you need to do to easily get started. First, you need to pick a self-defense class that sounds interesting to you and will be beneficial.

There are many styles out there that can fit the bill of "self-defense". Boxing and karate can help you learn how to punch and use strong arms effectively against an opponent.

Tae Kwon Do can help you learn kicks so you could be able to disable an assaulter so that you could run away. In addition, Judo could also be learned, which can help you stand against a bigger and stronger opponent than you.

You can pick and choose many of these styles, but sometimes it is even better to mix all of them together and learn a little bit from each. In this way, you will be well-rounded and will be ready for anything that comes your way!

Next, you need to find the type of media that you will use to train yourself in these different styles. There are many books and instructional DVDs out there that you can buy that can help you.

You can find these in many different places. Most bookstores would have ample material, but even if you visit a martial arts supply store they will have books and DVDs for you to choose from.

Now you need to find an area in your home where you will be able to have enough room to train. Obviously with DVDs you will have to be close to a TV, but you will need at least 10 square feet of space to train properly.

If you're using books, you can find somewhere like your garage or your backyard. No matter the area, you need to find a safe place that will let you train without any restrictions or distractions.

Many self-defense techniques can be learned on your own, but others require you to have a partner with you so you can practice. This is very important because it will help you practice situations where someone else might attack you.

Find someone that will be able to help you and motivate you. When you practice your techniques against them, start out very slow and gentle at first.

Many of the moves you will be doing are meant to disable the other person, so if you do it too fast too soon you might injure your partner. Start out slow, and then once you pick up experience you can practice the moves at a faster pace than you did before.
