Why would you need to filter your water? How can you do it and what different methods are used to accomplish this task?
It is important to have clean water because it gets rid of all of the impurities through a very fine physical barrier using either a biological or chemical process. What kinds of things use this process?
People who have swimming pools need to clean out their water that they use. Obviously any drinking water that people consume should be cleaned with a very thorough process.
Some people have a system that they put into their kitchen sink where the water runs through it to clean it out. And then some people fill up a water vase with a filtration system on the top and put it into their fridge to keep it cool.
And still others will only buy bottled water to drink. They set up a big two or three gallon system in their kitchen and always fill up on their daily eight glasses that way.
One way of filtering your water is to use the adsorption process which does not mean absorption. They are two completely different things and should not be confused with each other.
Basically adsorption is the process of attracting atoms and molecules from the liquid to an exposed solid surface which collects them and aligns them into different layers or films. It is a little different than chemisorptions in that chemisorptions are a chemical reaction used to generate other chemical species to the surface.
You can also use ion exchanges. This takes place between two electrolytes and a complex.
It can purify, separate, and get rid of any contaminates in the liquid by exchanging them with mineralic ion exchangers. The most basic way of accomplishing this is use a physical screen that removes different particles in the liquid that are smaller than the holes it passes through.
Hikers will use water filters that are portable to take on their hikes. They are shaped like a large water bottle with a small screen at the top.
Some of them have a mechanical hand pump to pump that water through the specialized screen into the container. Others use a siphon drip system so that the liquid is forced through the different layers instead of pumped.
These bottles are usually pretty light in weight and will weigh no more than a couple of pounds and can be easily carried on your hike. They are different than purifiers because they do not kill or remove viruses like hepatitis A or rotavirus.
What is water polishing? When would you want to use this method?
Polishing refers to any process out there that has the ability to remove very small material from your liquid that you do not want in there. Does this term sound familiar?
It should because it means the same thing as any filtration process. Depending on your preference, some people like to use one term more than the other.
If you only drink clean water, then you run less of a risk of catching diseases and viruses that are in bodies of water. Usually the water that comes through your kitchen sink is drinkable even if you are not too fond of the taste.
But at least it is clean and will be a huge benefit to your body. There are several different types of filters to use and there are many different kinds of sizes as well.
If you are storing water in your food storage and need to store a lot because there are a lot of members in your family, then you will obviously want to use something that can clean your water fast and put it into a big container. If you just need to use it to clean enough water for a hike, then you can get a smaller one that you can pack with you.
Research all of your different options to find what you need and what will work best for you. A lot of lab supply stores may have filters that you like but you can also look for them online to read reviews to help you decide on which one to get.
