A high fever accompanies flu symptoms which tend to start suddenly. Coughing, muscle aches, sore throat, fatigue and headache are common symptoms of flu. A serious illness can be caused by the virus that affects your respiratory tract. To guard your self, remedies for flu may be kept on hand.

When you're stuffed up with runny nose, water and salt remedy works well. Allow one-fourth to one-third cup of salt to dissolve in a large bowl or sink.

Repeating three to four times, immerse your face in the water for five to ten seconds. Try breathing in the mixture while keeping your eyes and mouth closed. Bacteria can be killed off further by trying a nasal rinse of grapefruit seed extract in warm water.

You can keep your self hydrated with broth. Whether it is beef, chicken, or vegetable, it is easy to keep down even without the appetite. Some nutrients will at least be provided by the canned broth.

The duration of a cold can be shortened by taking zinc lozenges within the day of its onset. Zinc acetate, gluconate and citrate are forms of zinc lozenges.

However, since zinc depletes the body's copper store, these are best taken for a few days only. The frequency of use has to be reduced especially when experiencing dry mouth.

Honey has long been used for coughs in Chinese medicine. A natural expectorant can be created by mixing a tablespoon into a cup of hot water. By promoting the flow of mucus, you're likely to get a good night's rest in spite of a hacking cough.

The healing properties of mustard work well as remedies for flu, chest colds, and bronchitis. Through the vapors, you can inhale most of its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. A mustard plaster can also be made by mixing a tablespoon of dry mustard and two to four tablespoons flour with warm water.

The piece of cloth smeared with the paste is positioned to cover the chest applied with olive oil. Within a few minutes, the traces of mustard are washed off after the plaster is removed.

When having flu, fluids are very essential. Your fluid can be taken through a cup of hot tea. However, only decaffeinated varieties work since caffeine is a mild diuretic. Any flavor or kind of juice will also do as your fluids. You can keep your self hydrated while getting extra vitamins by drinking lots of juice.

The lemon in a hot lemonade beverage is still highly regarded as a remedy for flu. By alkalinizing the body quickly, lemon helps promote health. Bacteria and viruses will find mucous membranes distasteful with the highly acidic lemon.

Antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties are contained in lemon. Throughout your illness, hot lemonade is best enjoyed three to four times a day. Bananas, bell peppers, carrots, onions, rice, blueberries are some infection-fighting foods that work best as remedies for flu.
