Many people have a difficult time arranging their schedules so that there is time left during their day to exercise. With work to be done and families to take care of, exercise tends to fall into the "If I Get Time" category.

Most days, that extra time that you need to work out just is not there and gets filled up with other necessities and duties. However, exercising is necessary to both your health and your overall well-being.

Studies have shown that those who forego cardiovascular exercise or are stagnant throughout their week are more likely to have heart disease and be prone to heart attacks. They are also more likely to be obese or struggle with their weight.

The first step in deciding how to fit a healthy routine into your schedule is to get a daily planner. The only way you will be able to prioritize and schedule your life is to have some way to right down times and dates when things need to be done.

Whether you use a paper planner, complete with weekly schedules and calendars, or you use electronic devices like spread sheets or cellular phone applications, the best way to create a plan is to document it and visualize it. Take a piece of paper and write out all of the things you need to get done day to day.

Then, number them in order of importance to you and your family. Next to each item, assign an approximate time that the activity takes.

Once you have all of this information written out, start placing the items in the schedule in your planner, in order of how fundamental they are. The schedule should read like an itinerary, stating each activity and how long you need to accomplish them.

After you have created this schedule, pick out any spans of time throughout the day in which you do not have anywhere to be or anything specific to do. Account for any span of time, no matter how short.

When you have these times documented, start thinking of exercises that you could do with that period of time. For instance, if you have fifteen minutes to spare between running errands and when you need to pick up your child from school, head to a park to jog or do some push-ups and crunches at home.

You can also try setting your alarm slightly earlier in the morning for one week. During the extra fifteen or twenty minutes that you have created in your morning, do some cardiovascular exercise or lift some hand weights.

Though getting enough sleep is very essential to your health, as well, by trying to go to bed and waking up a little earlier, you can add extra alone time into your day. Waking up earlier may be difficult at first, but once you do this consistently for a span of time, your body will get used to it and reset its inner "alarm clock."

One way that you can save a lot of time and get exercise is by keeping exercise equipment in your home or office. By researching and pricing different types, you can find fairly reasonable machines that will last you for a very long time.

If you spend most of the day at home, whether you are taking care of your family or working, try purchasing a machine to help with cardiovascular exercise, like an elliptical machine. Even if you are not able to leave your home, you will be able to use the elliptical to increase your heart rate and burn fat.

These types of machines are able to mimic the type of workout you would get outside or on different types of terrain. This is due to resistance settings and the ability to increase or decrease the incline.

Having an elliptical machine in your home will make it easier for you to use your spare time wisely for exercise. You can also research different types of machines to meet your preference and price range.

In reality, you may be the only thing stopping yourself from becoming more fit and feeling stronger and healthier. If you have the desire to lose weight or simply live a healthier lifestyle, use any spare time you have to work your body and strengthen your cardiovascular system.
