No matter how enthused you are about going to work out, whether it's in a London gym or a Scottish health club, there will come a time when you need to take a break.
It might be because of nothing to do with yourself and the gym could be closing temporarily for refurbishment or you might simply fancy a change of scenery for a few days.
Whichever reason it is, it's important that to maintain your level of fitness you continue to work out and these 3 points are all great ways to work out without heading down to your local gym.
1. Swimming - for those who go to the gym and are used to running miles or lifting kilo upon kilo of weights, swimming can seem like a lazy exercise option if you don't do it much.
The truth is that swimming is in fact one of the best types of exercise possible as it works a whole host of muscles in your body.
From your arms and your legs to your stomach and you shoulders, you might not think you'll feel like you've worked out as much as you had if you were in a gym, but once you've swam a few dozen lengths, you'll realise just how beneficial swimming is as a form of exercise.
2. Jogging - arguably the easiest of all exercises to carry out outside of the gym, the difficulty here is that if you've only ever jogged on a treadmill, you might find it a little strange doing so outside, as you're more likely to draw attention to yourself than you are when you're in a gym full of people doing the same exercise.
Just remember, though, that you're staying fit and healthy and if it helps, put your MP3 player on to help keep you focused solely on your jogging.
If it turns out that you really don't enjoy jogging when other people are about, get up early and go for a jog before work when most people are still in bed.
3. Basic home muscle exercises - the idea here is to think about what you do in your London gym on a regular basis, look at what pieces of equipment you use and then carry out the exercise without the equipment.
For some exercises, this is particularly easy. For example, rather than using the gym equipment to bench press a certain amount of weight, carry out a push up instead. It's likely to be a lot easier if you're used to bench pressing more than your bodyweight and if this is the case, the solution is easy - weigh yourself down by wearing a backpack with weights in.
Other exercises aren't as straightforward, such as those that develop your pectoral and shoulder muscles. In these instances, it simply requires a little thought and planning. For example, using a standard pull up bar, you can carry out a range of modified pull ups and for added difficultly, use the same method as the weighted push up and wear a weighted backpack.
