If you need to lose weight you will be overwhelmed by the magnitude of different weight loss programs available. There is every type of advertisement being thrown at those who are looking to lose weight hoping to make some money off of those who are desperate to lose weight. Choose the program that safely allows you to slowly lose weight by burning more calories than you consume. In order to burn more calories than you consume you should either reduce the caloric intake by not overeating or by taking in healthier foods that are reduced in fat and sugar. The other way to burn more calories than you consume is to increase your energy levels by exercising more.

Avoid falling into the trap of using fad or starvation diets, as a weight loss method because you will only be hurting your body and any weight loss you realize early on will be quickly regained when you go back to your normal eating pattern.

The U.S. Committee on Dietary Allowance recommends the correct number of calories for various age groups by sex, activity level and your health condition. Pregnancy has different recommendations for caloric intake and it is usually not a good idea to try to lose weight while you are pregnant.

There are safe weight loss tips to follow and you can also ask your doctor for advice on losing weight that takes your particular health situation into consideration.

Weight Loss Tips:

A safe rate of weight loss is approximately one pound per week. There is approximately 3,500 calories in a pound, so you would need to consume 3,500 fewer calories in a week in order to lose one pound. If you turn to your math skills you will find that reducing your daily intake by 500 calories will over a 7 day period give you that 3,500 calorie deficit that you are in need of (500 X 7). If your doctor approves of losing 2 pounds per week you would need to reduce your daily caloric intake by 1,000 calories. You can achieve this daily deficit by burning more calories by increasing your physical activity along with reducing your daily caloric intake. If you combine increased activity with a decrease in consumption you should be able to lose weight without significantly depriving yourself of food.

Women should not go below 1,200 calories per day, unless supervised by a doctor to do so. Men should not go below a daily caloric intake of 500 to 800 calories as recommended by a doctor.

Part of losing weight is not gaining it so here are some tips for preventing weight gain: avoid any food that is high in sugar or fat, reduce the amount of alcohol you consume if any, avoid boredom, frustration or stress. If you feel yourself becoming depressed seek medical help immediately.
