Losing Weight can only be achieved by burning up more calories than you are putting into your body. Basically, you need to eat less and exercise more.
Diets are hard work, do not be fooled into thinking you are going to lose a lot of weight by cutting your calories for a few months, you will lose weight, but as soon as you stop dieting you are going to put the weight back on, and probably a few more pounds besides.
Exercise is a win-win situation. You are not giving anything up and the gains you make are enormous - improving your health, improving your appearance and improving your self esteem. You will get a real boost from feeling better within yourself and that in turn will motivate you to lose more weight.
Finding the form of exercise you enjoy is often difficult, but as you must remain constant with regular efforts at exercise then it is vital you choose something you enjoy, and something that you are not going to look for excuses to get out of. I wait until the kids are at school, my husband is at work then I turn the radio up full blast and dance (and sing!) along with my vacuum and duster until my house is sparkling and I am sweating!! Hey, it works for me, I hate cleaning and I hate exercise but I found a way to make both fun.
All you need to do is figure out what form of exercise will suit you. Maybe you too will dance along with your vacuum cleaner - or maybe as a child you loved to bounce on a trampoline, play football, go roller skating or swimming. Why not try these again?
Whatever form of exercise you choose in your efforts for losing weight you must remain focused, having a 'partner-in-weight-loss' is a great way to stay motivated on those days when you just can't be bothered. They will be there to push you and on their bad days you will be there to push them.
Think about involving your whole family in your efforts to lose weight, if you are overweight then the chances are other family members are too, you all have a similar lifestyle. When was the last time you visited a park together or went on a bike ride? You see, exercise doesn't have to been hard work, it can be fun for all of the family.
