When you walk into a gym there are many different machines that will be awaiting your arrival. You will have the choice of a plethora of machines that are meant to help you get into better shape and be on your way to healthier life.

After you have first joined a gym, all of these machines can be quite overwhelming. It is important that you get to know the purpose of the different machines that are in your gym and find a way to workout that works for your body.

A great way to start doing this is to ask someone that works at the gym to give you a description and quick walk through of each of the machines. This may take some time and you may want to divide it into sections for yourself.

The cardio machines are an excellent place to start. Every time that you go to the gym you should make sure that you are working out your heart and your cardiovascular system for at least thirty minutes.

These machines will all help you improve your cardiovascular system. Because this system is integral to the way that your body is able to handle day-to-day stresses and keep you alive it is important that this is your focus.

Although the weight room and any other part of the gym will also be important, when you are first learning about your gym you have to make sure that you are using the cardio machines. After you get used to the cardio machine you can them move onto another area.

The first machines that you will usually see when you are in the cardio section of the gym are the elliptical machines. There are a lot of people that automatically disregard these machines because they do not think they are intense enough.

Although, initially, working out on an elliptical can be easier than other machines you can make it a great workout. Many people choose to use an elliptical because it is so easy on their joints throughout the duration of the workout.

After you step on the machine and start to push the pedals you will notice that the screen will light up. When the screen lights up you will be able to control the machine more fully to enhance your workout.

As the machine begins to start up it will ask you some personal information. It is important that you enter in your information honestly and correctly to ensure your workout is catered to your specific needs.

The more that you workout the harder your workout will need to be. The machine will be able to keep your heart rate in your target heart rate zone if you enter in your information honestly and correctly.

First, the machine is going to ask you for your age. As you age the heart rate zone that your heart needs to be in while it is working hard during a workout will decrease and when you are young this number will increase.

After you enter in your age you will be asked to enter in your weight. Sometimes machines will also ask that you enter in your height so that it has a better gauge of where you are on the fitness scale and where your heart should be.

All of this information is going to give the machine the ability to adjust your workout throughout the entirety of your workout. This is, under the stipulation, that the machine has a heart rate monitor that is working correctly.

When the heart rate monitor is working correctly you will not even have to adjust the intensity of your workout during your workout. The machine will sense that your heart rate is not where it should be and will change the workout.

To increase the intensity the machine will increase the incline or even the resistance on the machine. These will both force your body to work harder or to work less so that your heart rate is in the proper zone.

After you get off of the workout you have to make sure that you participate in the cool down workout that the machine gives you. The machine has specifically designed a cool down period that will have you ready to step off of the machine in no time.

You do not have to be afraid of the machines at the gym. Hop on to a few, give them a try, find the ones that you like and dislike and your workout will continually improve.
