Nowadays, there has been more understanding for a person with Down's syndrome. There are a lot of issues and obstacles that both parents and the affected child will pass through.
Aside from the affected person have short lifespan; they can't get away from the stigma from the society where he or she belongs. It might be considered as a burden but because of love and affection of the parents, they will care and do the best for their child who has a disease that cure is unknown.
This abnormality often occurs to those mothers who became pregnant during their older days. As they become older and bears child, the chances of having her child to have this disease will increase. Mother of age 45 will have 1 in 30 chances of having a baby with Down syndrome.
However, modern researchers found out that it is not always the mothers' age can cause this disease. It is the irregularities in the number of chromosomes are the reason behind the abnormalities on the person with this disease.
This disease affects both mental and physical capabilities of a person. A baby that is born with this disease cannot be detected right away. As he or she grows, you will notices that there will be some irregularities on the physical appearance of the child. There are noticeable difference in their face, eyes, hands and other parts of their body.
Their movements and behaviour are also having some difference than those that are normal. Their mental capabilities are also slow. They cannot easily understand just like an ordinary child with the same age. Their cognitive development seems to be late making them different from the others. A person with Down syndrome can be observed through their mental and physical behaviours.
It is very important for the family member especially the parents to give all the support and encouragement for the child that has this disease. A child with Down syndrome must engage in family activities to make them feel just like an ordinary family member as much as possible.
They must have all the love and attention they deserve within the family to develop positive behaviours. A child with this disease will become loving and caring if they have experienced love and care from the family where they belong otherwise they will become more aggressive and posses dangerous behaviour.
It requires demanding service and intensive care for the person that has Down syndrome. Parents must be having an extreme compassion and love for their child for them to be willing in providing all the needed care and treatment for their child who has this disease. They must be willing to sacrifice and be persistent in considering their child with abnormalities.
A person with a Down's syndrome must be considered and be understood. It cannot be prevented nor be cured totally. It must be accepted rather than criticized. They deserve all the love and care that parents must be willing to sacrifice for their child who is affected.
