The term lucid dreaming was coined by a Dutch psychologist named Frederik van Eeden to describe a state where the individual is fully aware or conscious that he/she is dreaming during sleep.

There are different levels of lucidity as well. In cases of high lucidity individuals for example, the dreamer is fully aware of that he/she is dreaming, that they are fast asleep, and will awaken shortly.
