Having a healthy oral hygiene is incredibly important. Studies are showing more and more how much the health of the mouth affects an unborn fetus. This is why women should take special care of their mouths. Then again, the teeth are used for every meal and every smile which means they should definitely be taken care of as well as humanly possible. Those who understand how to keep a good oral hygiene are those who will save money with doctor's bills and feel happier and healthier thanks to their well-kept teeth.

Everyone knows they should brush their teeth morning and night but not everyone knows that they should not brush hard. This is surprising to many as one might think the harder one brushes, the cleaner the teeth will get. This is not necessarily the case. When someone brushes hard, it irritates the gums and puts unnecessary pressure on the teeth. Anyone can tell if they are brushing too hard as their tooth brush bristles will be disfigured after only a few weeks of brushing.

Avoiding foods that have a high concentration of sugar is a very good tip for those who want to protect their teeth. Sugar is incredibly hard on the teeth and the longer it stays on the teeth, the more devastating effects it can have. Those who do have a sweet tooth and can't avoid the sugary foods all the time would do well to brush after eating the sugar as well as to rinse with mouth wash to make certain the sugar doesn't stay on the teeth for long.

Examples of foods that have a lot of sugar, hidden sugar or a high concentration of sugar would include: cakes, ice cream, gum, soft drinks, etc. It is best to snack on fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of water as this will be best for the teeth and gums. Pears, melons, celery, and cucumbers are tasty and beneficial body more than just for the teeth themselves.

Mouth wash contains fluoride in it which can help to protect the teeth from many things. It is not just for bad breath; although, it can and does help for that, too. Dentists have said over and over again that they can tell a definite difference between those who use mouthwash and fluoride, and those who don't. Indeed, it's important to keep all of these tips in mind in order to maintain a healthy oral hygiene.
