I hate to admit it, but I have definitely developed a history as a worrier. I have been seized by anxieties both small and great over just about every trial and challenge that has come my way--at least in the past.
But fortunately, I have been able to kick the worrying habit by making some important adjustments in my everyday life. Before I share my advice, let me first say that serious anxiety--the kind that truly impairs your ability to have a happy life--is usually the result of a treatable mental health condition. If you think your worrying is that intense, you should consult a doctor.
With that being said, there are some tips I can share with you to help you get your life more on track.
One of the first things you will want to do is get organized. Start keeping a day planner to help you stay on top of all the tasks you have to do and to help you prepare for those events that are causing you to worry.
For example, I used to get so uncontrollably nervous before exams in college. But when I began including fifteen minutes of study time each day in my planner, I found that I was cramming a lot less, and my mind felt at ease as the day of the test approached.
Always give yourself something to look forward to. When I have a particularly stressful situation to live through--like an extended encounter with my in-laws--after it's all over I like to book an appointment for the day at my favorite spa for massage Redmond has.
This means that I know that there is a fun activity waiting for me just on the other side, giving me time to relax and unwind after the worrisome event.
Along the same lines, whenever you catch yourself worrying, slow down and focus on positive sensations rather than anxious thoughts. Whenever I've had a hard day, I like to get into a warm bath surrounded by my favorite scented candles and relaxing music, followed by slipping into my favorite warm pajamas fresh from the dryer.
Practicing little exercises like this can serve to shift my focus away from the negativity of thinking about my troubles because I am not really thinking at all.
Because I do this in the evening, it helps prepare me for a more restful night's sleep. After all, nothing makings worrying worse than literally losing sleep over it.
