Having and keeping the body you've always wanted depends on your fitness levels. You may have been extremely active at one point, but there may be many factors that can affect your change in body shape. Whether it was an injury or simply age, you'll need to become dedicated to a new regimen that will allow you to get the look you've been searching for.

Have a plan
It's essential that you have some type of roadmap or plan in mind before trying to begin a fitness regimen. There are many ways to get in shape. You could simply begin by walking around your neighborhood a few nights a week or you could get a few workout DVDs and follow along. On the other hand, you could seek out a personal trainer to help devise something specific for your needs.

Show up
No matter what, make a point to consistently show up. Many times, people fail to reach their fitness goals simply because they don't put in the effort to make their health a priority. You should look at getting in shape as a job, just like your real 9 to 5. And after a while, it will become a habit. However, in order to see results, you'll have to make a commitment to yourself and follow through. In addition, once you stick to it for a few weeks, you'll begin to notice small changes in your body, which will give you motivation to keep pushing forward.

Write it down
In order to make sure you don't miss a workout, be sure to put it on your schedule. Most people live their lives through schedules, so it's easy to simply choose a time each day and stick to it. Again, it may seem difficult at first, but think about how much time you spend a day on the computer, your phone or watching TV? If you just gave up one show, or reduced your Internet surfing time a little bit, you could start and finish a workout in less time it takes to watch your favorite sitcom. So, figure out what time works for you, put it on your schedule and commit to it. That way, you won't have to worry about unforeseen interruptions or events that come up.

Don't forget diet
You can exercise until you're exhausted, but if you don't change your diet, you're sure to slow your results. That's because your body needs fuel in order to perform at its best. Many times, it's not your workout, but your food choices. A diet of burgers, fries and sodas will not get you the body you want, so if your health is important to you, it's vital that you eat a lot of nutritious foods. Eat fruits, veggies, leans meats or other non-meat foods like beans if you're a vegetarian for optimal health. Furthermore, water is also very important.
