If you have lost one of your teeth you may be in need of a dental implant. There are not a lot of people that understand how important it is to have their tooth replaced because of the many other problems that a missing tooth can cause.
Dental implants can replace a tooth that has been lost for any reason. Some of the most common reasons that teeth are lost is because of some type of decay to the tooth or the root system or even trauma to the mouth.
There are some people that have naturally weak teeth. If your teeth are naturally weak and you notice that you have had some excessive wear and tear on your teeth you may want to consider a dental implant.
When you lose your teeth it can affect the way you interact with others. It is important that you take the time to have the tooth replaced before you notice yourself not being able to smile or talk with those around you.
Sometimes when a tooth is lost you may notice that your eating habits change. This may happen because it becomes easier for you to take bites out of certain foods or because your gums are super sensitive to the types of food you are used to eating.
No matter what problems are being caused you want to make sure that you are taking the time to fix the problem. A dental implant may be necessary for you to continue living a healthy and happy life.
There are some other types of replacements you can have put in your mouth when you lose a tooth. Although these may be more cost effective, the dental implant is going to be the most sturdy and natural feeling.
When you decide to have a dental implant you have to make sure that you are ready. There are many different procedures that your doctor will have you go through to make sure that you are going to have a successful implant.
First, your jaw will have to be prepared so that the tooth will stay in your jaw. This process sounds much more painful than it really is and it can also sound a lot more foreboding than it should sound.
A hole is drilled into your jaw to make sure that the tooth has a place to go. This small hole is called the pilot hole and it will guide the titanium anchor of the dental implant securely into your jaw.
This part of the process takes a lot of skill and a lot of expertise. You have to make sure that you understand how important it is to find a dentist or an oral surgeon that knows exactly what he or she is going to be doing.
When you know that your dentist or your surgeon is skilled you will have a much easier time trusting him or her with the process. Talk with referrals that the dentist or the doctor should have available for you if you feel the need for comfort.
After the hole has been drilled it is slowly widened to allow room for the implant itself. After the implant is in place a protective covering is then put in place to ensure that the tooth can heal and anchor.
The implant itself will actually anchor into your jaw. When the process is done, usually after several months, the protective covering is then taken off and a crown is put on the top of the implant.
The crown is shaped as a tooth and this allows your mouth to start re-growing around the tooth. This creates the most natural replacement for a tooth out of all of the other ways that you can create a replacement.
There are many people that would prefer to not have their jaw drilled in. Because they do not want their jaw drilled in they may opt to have a different type of procedure that feels much less invasive.
Having a dental implant put into your mouth is a very invasive surgery. When you realize this and you understand the risks you are then able to make an educated decision and decide if it is worth it to you.
No matter what your decision, if you have a permanent tooth that is missing you want to make sure that you get it replaced. With a replacement you will be able to have a healthy mouth and a full smile.
